Abstract: Inventive embodiments are directed to components, subassemblies, systems, and/or methods for continuously variable accessory drives (CVAD). In one embodiment, a skew-based control system is adapted to facilitate a change in the ratio of a CVAD. In another embodiment, a skew-based control system includes a skew actuator coupled to a carrier member. In some embodiments, the skew actuator is configured to rotate a carrier member of a CVT. Various inventive traction planet assemblies can be used to facilitate shifting the ratio of a CVT. In some embodiments, the traction planet assemblies include legs configured to cooperate with the carrier members. In some embodiments, a traction planet assembly is operably coupled to the carrier members. Embodiments of a shift cam and traction sun are adapted to cooperate with other components of the CVT to support operation and/or functionality of the CVT. Among other things, shift control interfaces for a CVT are disclosed.

Abstract: Components, subassemblies, systems, and/or methods for continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are provided. In one embodiment, a CVT has a number of spherical planets in contact with an idler assembly. Various idler assemblies can be used to facilitate to improve durability, fatigue life, and efficiency of a CVT. In one embodiment, the idler assembly has two rolling elements having contact surfaces that are angled with respect to a longitudinal axis of the CVT. In some embodiments, a bearing is operably coupled between the first and second rolling elements. The bearing is configured to balance axial force between the first and second rolling elements. In one embodiment, the bearing is a ball bearing. In another embodiment, the bearing is an angular contact bearing. In yet other embodiments, needle roller bearings are employed.

Abstract: An electric phaser for dynamically adjusting a rotational relationship of a camshaft with respect to an engine crankshaft of an internal combustion engine includes an electric motor and a tapered roller drive. The tapered roller drive includes a sun, rollers, a carrier, at least one ring, and at least one load generator providing an axial load. The rollers are maintained in rolling engagement with the sun and the ring without the use of teeth. In some embodiments, the tapered roller drive is based on a fixed-sun design. In other embodiments, the tapered roller drive is based on a split ring design.

Abstract: Projections protruding towards a cam plate and a disc are provided on both axial side surfaces of the retainer at a plurality of positions at which phases of the projections in the circumferential direction are offset from pockets. One axial direction surface of the cam plate and the disc are formed with concave portions at portions facing the respective projections. The concave portions have an axial depth deepest at a center portion thereof in the circumferential direction and becoming shallower towards both end portions thereof.

The shift actuator controller includes an actuator force model configured to provide a shift force setpoint based on the CVP speed ratio set point and the input torque to the CVP and commands a change in a carrier position of the CVP based at least in part on the shift force setpoint.

Abstract: A variable transmission includes various powerpath layouts comprising configurations based on a two stage gearbox with a first stage providing a multi-mode configuration combining power-split modes, direct drive modes and a directional stage to select driving either forward or reverse with a pair of direction clutches; or multi-mode operation comprising a planetary gear set as the central part of the configurations together with the CVP, wherein the modes are selected by engaging a clutch/brake while releasing the others. These configurations are particularly useful for compact Off-Highway applications such as compact wheel loaders having a wide speed range and high rimpull force requirement where an operator may also desire limited jerking motion during shifts in the low speed range.
