    摘要: A power resistor including a resistance element of metal ribbon formed into an edgewound helix, and an internal three-point support structure axially disposed within the interior of the helix. The support structure includes three insulating assemblies each having a plurality of insulators secured by longitudinal compression springs to a support bar. The support structure also includes a pair of spreaders located at opposite ends of the helix, each having three radially extending arms. Assembly of the resistor includes the steps of inserting the insulating assemblies into the interior of the helix, radially spreading the insulating assemblies against the interior of the helix, and welding the ends of the support bars to the extending arms of the spreaders.

    摘要: An electric conduction heating assembly for heating a base member comprises a thin strip of apertured, foil-like resistance material encapsulated between two thin sheets of electrical insulation material. The resistance strip is provided with a terminal assembly at each of its ends. Each terminal assembly includes a terminal connector having an apertured base. Prongs having an axial extent corresponding to the thickness of one of the insulation layers extends through the resistance strip, the insulation layer and the aperture in the terminal to clamp the resistance material against the prongs, whereby the prongs limit the plastic flow of the insulation layer during the riveting operation. The other layer of insulation material is provided with a pressure-sensitive adhesive coating covered by a removable protective release laminate so that the assembly may be secured to a surface to be heated. The assembly has particular utility as a heater for automotive mirrors to prevent ice accumulation on the reflecting surface thereof.

    摘要: An electrical clinical thermometer system including a probe for insertion into a body cavity. A temperature sensor is carried by the probe whose electrical resistance changes with temperature. This probe is connected into a wheatstone bridge circuit which is restored to a balanced condition by an adjustable resistor which is mechanically connected to a readout device that indicates the temperature at the sensor when a meter in the bridge circuit is at its reference setting. The system is insensitive to voltage changes such as from a battery whose voltage declines. The readout device holds its reading when the probe is removed from the cavity, and may be either mechanical or digital. A sensor for this system comprises an elongated metal body with a discontinuity which is bridged by a plurality of fuse-like resistances of different values which can selectively be destroyed so as finely to adjust the resistance of the sensor. Calibration means for the adjustable resistor enable the use of inexpensive, relatively low-tolerance components to secure a very accurate measurement.

A resistance heater element is positioned inside the shield. The resistance heating element is constructed of U-shaped strips having flat, radiating surfaces positioned generally parallel to a work piece positioned in the trough. The U-shaped strips are integrally connected to each other at the ends of the strips alternately on opposite sides of the U''s to form a continuous electrical path through the resistance heating element. The strips are supported on insulated rods mounted in cups formed in the end walls of the shield.
