Abstract:
Clear/translucent formulations comprise polyquaternary ammonium actives with lower, or no, solvent levels except the solvent which is normally present in the polyquaternary raw material stocks by choosing highly efficient principal solvents within a specific Clog P range, employing higher levels of polyquaternary ammonium actives, and/or augmenting the bilayer with surfactants and/or polar oils. Compositions with lowered solvent levels have at or below about 5% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, preferably below about 3% by volume of secondary dispersed phases, and more preferably below about 1% by volume of secondary dispersed phases. The most preferred compositions are essentially free of secondary dispersed phases. High-speed centrifugation easily and quickly reveals the % volume of secondary phase(s).
Abstract:
Compositions, articles and methods are provided for supplying fabric care benefits to clothing or fabrics in an automated washing machine and by manual washing. The fabric care compositions preferably have less than about 5% detergent surfactants, more preferably less than 3%, even more preferably less than 1% and are most preferably free of detergent surfactants. Similarly, the fabric care compositions preferably have less than about 5% fabric softener actives, more preferably less than 3%, even more preferably less than 1% and are most preferably free of detergent surfactants. The laundry articles can take a variety of forms in a variety of physical states all of which will rapidly dispense a unitized amount of one or more selected fabric care agents to a wash and/or rinse bath solution during the laundering process under a variety of conditions. The invention also pertains to laundry kits that contain a variety of such articles and instructions concerning their use. Likewise, methods for preparing a customized laundry solution to obtain a specific fabric care benefit selected based on the user's personal preferences and/or the fabric care needs of the fabrics being laundered are also provided. Further, the present invention also concerns methods for assisting a consumer in identifying the unitized articles to be used in preparing a laundry solution that will impart desired fabric care benefits as well as merchandising displays for dispensing the articles, assembling customized laundry kits and instructing the consumer on the selection and use of laundry articles.
Abstract:
Basic cleaning compositions using toxicologically-acceptable ingredients for cleaning fruits and vegetables are provided. Liquid formulations comprising detergent surfactant, such as oleate, alcohol ethoxylates, etc., and neutralized phosphoric acid are sprayed onto apples, lettuce and the like to remove soil and unwanted deposits, especially wax. Articles for applying the compositions to produce by spraying are disclosed. Use of the compositions for disinfectancy/sanitization of produce and cleaning/disinfectancy/sanitization of non-food inanimate surfaces are disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to stable, aqueous fabric softening compositions, fabric softening methods and articles of manufacture that use such fabric softening compositions comprising preferred polyalkyleneoxy polysiloxanes selected from the group consisting of polyethyleneoxy polysiloxane, polyethyleneoxy/polypropyleneoxy polysiloxanes, and mixtures thereof. The composition is preferably applied as small particle size droplets, especially from spray containers. The present invention also relates to a method of identifying, selecting, and/or designing the preferred polyethyleneoxy polysiloxanes and/or polyethyleneoxy/polypropyleneoxy polysiloxanes that provide superior fabric softening performance in general, and especially for use in the fabric softening composition of the present invention.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a stable, aqueous odor-absorbing solution, for use on inanimate surfaces. The solution comprises from about 0.1% to about 5%, by weight of the solution, of solubilized, water-soluble, uncomplexed cyclodextrin, an effective amount of a solubilized, water-soluble, antimicrobial preservative having a water-solubility of greater than about 0.3%, optional perfume, and an aqueous carrier. The solution is essentially free of any material that would soil or stain fabric and has a pH of greater than about 3. The solution can be incorporated into a spray dispenser to create an article of commerce that can facilitate treatment of articles and/or surfaces with uncomplexed cyclodextrin solutions of a level that is effective yet is not discernible when dried on the surface.
Abstract:
Novel fatty acids and derivatives thereof such as salts, new surfactant systems comprising one or more of these compounds, consumer products such as laundry products, personal care products, pharmaceutical compositions, industrial cleaners, and the like comprising said compounds or surfactant systems.
Abstract:
Animal care systems desirably include animal litter with reduced malodor impression comprising solid moisture-absorbing material and effective amounts of both odor absorbing material, preferably, cyclodextrin, or derivative thereof, and material for reducing the formation of malodor, e.g., antibacterial and/or urease inhibitor, preferably water-soluble metallic salt such as zinc salt. Behavior control products are also provided including animal repellent and attractant products, preferably in spray containers, and freshening and cleaning products, also especially in spray containers, and, preferably, in association with instructions for using the products to carry out a method of animal control in which the animal litter is refreshed as needed, and areas are treated with repellent and attractant products to influence the animals to avoid certain areas and frequent other areas, and products for cleaning areas where accidents occur and discouraging the animal from returning to those areas.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to dryer-activated fabric softening compositions comprising: (A) pro-perfume acetal compounds; (B) fabric softening compounds; and (C) optionally, (1) a carboxylic acid salt of a tertiary amine and/or a tertiary amine ester; and (2) a nonionic softener; wherein, preferably, the Iodine Value of the total number of fatty acyl groups present in (A), (C)(1), and (C)(2) is from about 3 to about 60. These compositions exhibit good antistatic properties as well as improved delivery from a substrate.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of a dryer-added fabric softener composition, after a normal wash process, said composition having optimal characteristics for providing good coverage of fabrics that are treated, and optionally comprising at least one fabric softener component, for imparting fabric appearance benefits. The invention comprises the softener compositions in packages in association with instructions for their use in the dryer to provide protection for the fabrics, especially color care. Dryer-added fabric softener compositions containing chlorine scavenger to protect colored fabrics from chlorine in the next wash cycle are disclosed.
Abstract:
