摘要: The disclosed method may include (1) receiving an input datum to be processed using a non-linear function to produce an output datum, (2) comparing the input datum to a plurality of indexes of a lookup table, where the indexes designate input endpoints of a plurality of piecewise-linear sections approximating the non-linear functions, and where the lookup table further includes, for each of the indexes (a) a slope of the piecewise-linear section corresponding to the index, and (b) an axis intercept of the piecewise-linear section corresponding to the index (2) selecting, based on comparing the input datum to the plurality of indexes, an index that designates the piecewise-linear section associated with the input datum, and (4) calculating, using the slope and the axis intercept corresponding to the selected index, the output data corresponding to the input datum. Video processing systems employing such a method are also disclosed.

摘要: Provided is a display method of displaying, on a display device, video of video data where luminance of video is defined by a first EOTF corresponding to HDR. The method includes: acquiring the video data; performing first conversion where the luminance of the video is converted to a luminance corresponding to a dynamic range of a third EOTF, where, with regard to a second EOTF that is part of the first EOTF and is the part of a luminance range where the peak luminance indicated by the peak luminance information included in the acquired video data is maximum luminance, the dynamic range of luminance of the second EOTF is reduced with maximum luminance of the second EOTF matching displayable luminance of the display device, while maintaining the relative relationship of luminance of the second EOTF; and displaying the video on the display device using the result of the first conversion.

A recording medium, on which the reproduction device of one aspect of the present technology performs reproduction, records coded data of an extended video that is a video having a first brightness range that is wider than a second brightness range, brightness characteristic information that represents a brightness characteristic of the extended video, and graphics data that is superimposed on the extended video and that has the second brightness range. The reproduction device converts a first pixel value of the graphics to a second pixel value in the brightness characteristic of the extended video represented by the brightness characteristic information, and synthesizes the extended video. The present technology can be applied to players that reproduce contents.

摘要: Innovations in rendering of high dynamic range (“HDR”) video on a display device having enhanced dynamic range (“EDR”) are described. The peak brightness for an EDR display device is lower than the peak brightness for a typical HDR display device but higher than the peak brightness for a typical display device having standard dynamic range. The increased range of brightness values in an EDR display device can be utilized effectively to show bright highlights of the HDR video. For example, decision logic is configured to evaluate a peak brightness of a target display device and select an HDR-to-EDR tone mapping mode. A tone mapper is configured to apply tone mapping to input values for the sample values of HDR video, according to a tone mapping function, thereby producing output values for sample values of EDR video.
