Abstract:
This invention provides a method for improved frequency agility and preferably includes transmitting and receiving data on a primary channel; finding a secondary channel substantially free from interference during a period between data transmissions on the primary channel; and transmitting and receiving data on the secondary channel when an unacceptable level of interference is detected on the primary channel. In an alternate embodiment, data is preferably transmitted on a primary and a secondary channel during separate periods of a transmission interval. If an unacceptable level of interference is detected on either the primary or secondary channels, then the other channel is used for data transmission during one of the periods while another one of the periods is used to identify a new channel substantially free from interference to replace the bad channel.

This invention generally relates to methods, apparatus, and computer program code for antenatal screening for chromosomal abnormalities, in particular Down's Syndrome. A method of determining a likelihood of a fetus carried by a pregnant mother having a chromosomal abnormality, a first biological, parameter being suitable for screening said fetus for said chromosomal abnormality, the method comprising: receiving first data from a first stage of pregnancy of said mother, said first data comprising data representing a first value of said first biological parameter, receiving second data from a second, later stage of said pregnancy, said second data comprising data representing a second value of said first biological parameter, and determining likelihood data from said first and second data, said likelihood data representing the likelihood of said fetus having a chromosomal abnormality.
Abstract:
A method for controlling trapped air in a clutch of an automatic clutch-to-clutch transmission includes, calculating a pulse on time based on a clutch volume and adaptive convergence. A pulse off time is calculated based on a temperature of transmission fluid. A pulse number is calculated based on the temperature of transmission fluid. A maximum pressure is commanded to the clutch based on the pulse on time and a minimum pressure is then commanded to the clutch based on the pulse off time. A pulse counter is incremented when the pulse off time expires. The steps of commanding maximum pressure, then commanding minimum pressure, and incrementing the pulse counter are repeated until the pulse counter equals a desired pulse number.
Abstract:
Wireless devices transmit and receive radio signals based upon reference frequencies generated by crystal oscillators. If the reference frequencies of the transmitter and the receiver are different, the radio signals may not be received properly or may not be received at all. A measurement circuit measures the amount of error or signal corruption in the radio signals due to the reference frequency offset between the transmitter and the receiver. A frequency offset circuit generates an offset operating frequency in the transmitter or the receiver to align or calibrate the operating frequencies of the devices.
Abstract:
A golf club head has a face insert that is supported from beneath by a substrate composed of a plurality of elongate rod elements arranged in a parallel closely packed array. Because the face insert is made of a single material, the resiliency of the face insert itself does not vary across the front surface of the face insert; however, the effective resiliency of the face insert may be varied by varying the resiliency of the substrate. This is accomplished by selecting different materials and/or different overall lengths for the rod elements that comprise the substrate. Use of a substrate comprising a plurality of rod elements permits the effective resiliency of the face insert to be varied without varying the face material.
Abstract:
A therapeutic foam for the treatment of, inter alia, varicose veins comprises a sclerosing solution foamed with a physiological gas such as carbon dioxide, oxygen or a mixture thereof. The foam has a nitrogen content of less than 0.8%. It may be generated using a pressurised canister system incorporating a fine mesh of micron dimensions through which the gas and sclerosing liquid are passed to make the foam. Alternatively, the foam may be generated by passing gas and solution between two syringes through a fine mesh. Techniques are described for minimising the amount of nitrogen in a canister or syringe based product. A technique for generating and delivering foam simultaneously using a syringe based device is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A novel flooring composition was developed based on a blend comprising: a) an elastomer; b) a random propylene/alpha-olefin copolymer; c) a cross linking agent; and optionally d) a melt strength enhancing polymer. This composition achieves a unique balance of properties, exhibiting often-conflicting performance requirements. These include low gloss and excellent pattern duplication in embossing, low modulus, minimal odor, excellent grain acceptance and abrasion resistance, while remaining thermoformable and maintaining minimal shift in viscosity during recycle.
Abstract:
A method of testing a biological fluid for the presence of an infection. The method includes the steps of introducing a sample of biological fluid and a reagent including light amplifying compound into a reaction chambers, the light amplifying compound reacting with a substance present only in an infected sample to emit light, and immediately measuring the intensity of any light emitted from the sample.
Abstract:
The present invention encompasses, in part, a method and apparatus for lens casting in which two molds, preferably formed of plastic, are interconnected or joined together via a ring to form a mold cavity having substantially the same dimensions of the lens to be formed therein. The invention is further directed to compositions and methods used in lens casting. In a first implementation the invention includes a mold having a ring having an interior periphery; a front mold formed of a plastic and having a lens-forming surface, an edge circumscribing the lens-forming surface that is sized to be complementarily received within a portion of the interior periphery of the ring, and a base having dimensions greater than the interior periphery; and a rear mold formed of a plastic and having a lens-forming surface.
Abstract:
An inverted PCRAM cell is formed by plating the bottom electrode, made of copper for example, with a conductive material, such as silver. Chalcogenide material is disposed over the plated electrode and subjected to a conversion process so that ions from the plated material diffuse into the chalcogenide material.
