Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for use of DCN-ID data as a basis for service configuration and differentiation. A UE may be provisioned with a DCN-ID that correlates with a service plan to which the UE subscribes, and the UE may include the DCN-ID in an attach request that the UE sends to a NB. The NB may then map the included DCN-ID to a service configuration for the UE and take action to configure service for the UE accordingly. In an example implementation, the service configuration could include a quantity of secondary NBs to be added for concurrent service of the UE, a set of one or more DCNs in which the UE should be connected, and a set of one or more application-layer services to be provided for the UE.

Abstract: Coordinated multipoint (CoMP) can improve uplink service in cellular networks. However, uplink CoMP can also burden an access network, such as by increasing processing loads at base stations and/or increasing traffic on backhaul links between base stations. Accordingly, exemplary methods and systems help to dynamically select an uplink CoMP mode for a user equipment (UE) based on various factors, such as whether the UE is located at a border cell, whether or not carrier aggregation is being utilized for downlink communications with the UE, and/or whether or not the UE is a heavy data user, among other possible factors.

Abstract: In a wireless network comprising a plurality of carriers available for carrier aggregation transmissions between a base station and UE, the base station: (i) determines whether a requirement exists to transmit data between the UE and the base station via a carrier aggregation transmission; (ii) in response to determining that the carrier aggregation transmission requirement exists, selects a primary component carrier and one or more secondary component carriers from the plurality of carriers for the carrier aggregation transmission based on one or more of each carrier's receive power at the UE, transmit power at the base station, and frequency; (iii) allocates the selected primary and secondary component carriers to the carrier aggregation transmission; (iv) informs the UE of the allocation; and (v) executes the carrier aggregation transmission according to the allocation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for compensating for excessive attenuation on an RF connection between a remote radio head (RRH) and an antenna of cell site. In an example configuration, in which first and second RF carriers of a cell site traverse different RF paths between respective RRHs and respective antenna, the second RF carrier may be subject to more attenuation than the first. Consequently, antenna transmission power of the second RF carrier may be below one or another threshold. For communication services to user equipment devices that involve both the first and second RF carriers, the diminished antenna transmission power of the second RF carrier may cause service degradation. In accordance with example embodiments, a controlling network entity may determine that the power is diminished, and responsively reallocate transmission power from an underutilized carrier to the second carrier, thereby boosting its transmission power and remediating service degradation.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system to help manage handover of a UE based on data buffering. In accordance with the disclosure, when a base station receives data destined for a UE, the base station may record the received data into a data buffer for temporary storage and retrieve the data at some later time to transmit the data to the UE. The base station may then determine, based at least in part on an amount of elapsed time from recording the data to retrieving the data, whether to invoke handover of the UE from being served by the base station to being served by a different, neighboring base station.
