Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for routing non-native Short Message Service (SMS) messages to a first device, the first device being assigned a native identifier and being associated with a native telephony service provider, are provided herein. In some embodiments, the method includes receiving an SMS message directed to the native identifier of the first device, determining routing instructions for the SMS message based on the native network identifier associated with the first device, and routing the SMS message to the first device based on the determined routing instructions, wherein the act of routing results in SMS messages directed to the native identifier of the first device being directed to a forwarding identifier assigned to the first device by a first non-native communication service provider.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dynamically adjusting an aspect ratio of an image during a video call is described herein. Specifically, a method for dynamically adjusting the aspect ratio of an image during a video call may include obtaining at least one display parameter of a display device, performing a comparison of the at least one display parameter to at least one image capture parameter of a capture device, capturing an original image, modifying the original image based on the comparison performed, wherein the modified image has an adjusted aspect ratio different from an aspect ratio of the original image, and sending the modified image to the display device.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for displaying and accessing contacts in a contact list on a display device. In some embodiments, the method includes displaying a list of contacts on the display device, wherein the list of contacts is separated into groups of contacts by contact group separators based on at least one configuration setting, generating a quick access index including a plurality of selectable index items each associated with a group of contacts, wherein the selectable index items are only generated for the groups of contacts that include at least one contact, and displaying the quick access index over at least a portion of the list of contacts.
Abstract:
Call detail records (CDRs) that are generated by different elements of an IP telephony system in connection with the same communication can be matched to one another using timing information contained in the CDRs. Other information in addition to timing information, and which is present in two CDRs relating to the same communication may be used in conjunction with timing information to match CDRs from the same communication.
Abstract:
Systems and methods of establishing a communications channel between a first telephony device and a second telephony device obtain information about the capabilities of various data network elements that can be used to establish the communications channel. The information about the elements is used to select a combination of elements that are used to establish the communications channel. A communications channel may also be monitored while it is in use. If the requirements for the channel change, the communications channel may also be changed accordingly. If any of the elements become incapable of providing the required level of service or functionality for a communications channel, the element may be removed from the communications channel.

Abstract:
Method and apparatus for voice traffic management in a data network includes establishing a default maximum bandwidth setting at a LAN egress port when voice-type traffic is not present in a LAN portion of the data network, detecting voice-type traffic, reducing the bandwidth setting at the LAN egress port to effect a change in a rate of non voice type traffic and monitoring non voice type traffic and voice quality statistics to determine if the rate of non voice type traffic entering the data network has changed. Once the desired change has occurred, performing a linear increase of the bandwidth setting at the LAN egress port to a first value while monitoring voice quality statistics, determining if voice quality has degraded during increase of the bandwidth setting and repeating the last two steps if voice quality has not degraded.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for terminating telephony communications to a mobile telephony device that is roaming outside of its native service area make use of a forwarding termination service. The forwarding termination service causes the native mobile telephony service provider that provides service to the mobile telephony device to forward incoming telephony communications directed the native telephone number of the mobile telephony device to a forwarding access number. The forwarding termination service receives telephony communications directed to the forwarding access number, and then terminates the telephony communication to the mobile telephony device via any one of multiple different methods. The mobile telephony service provider can be instructed to implement and cancel call forwarding instructions by dialing a special character string on the mobile telephony device.
Abstract:
A communications adaptor comprising an adaptor first port; an adaptor second port; an adaptor third port; and a processor. The adaptor first port is configured to connect to an analog communications line. The adaptor second port is configured to connect to a data network. The adaptor third port is configured to connect to an analog telephony device. The processor is configured to determine that a first call setup request signal has been received at the adaptor first port. The processor is further configured, subsequent to such determination: (1) to transmit a second call setup request signal over the adaptor second port to an Internet Protocol (IP) telephony system over the data network; and (2) to transmit a third call setup request signal over the adaptor third port.
