    Abstract: The present invention is in the field of filtration of polymers and other compounds, and more specifically the present invention is in the field of high pressure polymer filtration. The present invention relates to pleated support tubes for filters that can be used, among other applications, for the filtration of polymer compounds used in various plastic applications. The present invention also relates to the use of sealing rings for use with the pleated tubes of the present invention.     Abstract: Methods of making a filter element may comprise inserting end portions of a filter and a core into a liquid bonding material of an end cap. The end portions may be inserted into the liquid bonding material at the same time or at different times. Inserting the end portion of the core into the liquid bonding material may include separating some of the liquid bonding material from the end portion of the filter. The end portion of the filter is bonded to the end cap, while the core may or may not be bonded to the end cap. The inner periphery of the end portion of the filter near the bond may be supported by an outer wall of the core.

    Abstract: A filter support sleeve for use with a filter element to provide structural support for the filter element. The support sleeve encompasses the filter element and includes a metal strip wound in helical turns joined by a continuous spiral weld to form a hollow cylinder. The metal strip has substantially square perforation for passage of fluid flow through the support sleeve oriented such that when the metal strip is helically wound, a line parallel to each side of the square-shaped perforation is skew with the axial axis of the support sleeve. The support sleeve present an open structure while protecting the filter element from forces generated by the fluid flow during normal use or back flow during cleaning. When used with a pleated filter element, the support sleeve will not obstruct the entire length of the pleats.

    Abstract: A filter device for filtering hydraulic fluid includes first and second subelements 40, 42 within a filter housing having separate inflows 20, 24 thereto for the respective subelements and a common outflow 22. The first subelement has a higher filter fineness than the second subelement. Several bypass configurations are taught and include: (i) a bypass line 28 for bypassing the second subelement by drawing fluid directly from the supply 95; (ii) a bypass valve 116 (FIG. 3) for bypassing the first subelement; and (iii) a bypass valve 151 (FIG. 5) for connecting the first subelement inflow 20 with the common outflow 22. The device is compact, has an easy-to-service arrangement, and ensures protection of a hydraulic pump and highly stressed hydraulic components.
