Abstract: Disclosed herein is a single integrated circuit chip including main logic that operates a vehicle component such as a valve driver. Isolated from the main logic within the chip is a safety area that operates to verify proper operation of the main logic. A checker circuit within the chip outside of the safety area serves to verify proper operation of the checker circuit. The checker circuit receives signals from the safety circuit and uses combinatorial logic circuit to verify from those signals that the check circuit is operating properly.

Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to an opto-electronic device of semiconductor material formed in a semiconductor layer of a first conductivity type having a thickness and accommodating at least one deep region of a second conductivity type. The deep region forms a PN junction with the semiconductor layer. The deep region has a depth greater than the width. The deep region is formed by a bottom portion contiguous to a first layer portion of the semiconductor layer; a surface portion contiguous to a second layer portion of the semiconductor layer; and an intermediate portion contiguous to a third layer portion. The concentration of the third layer portion is greater than that of the first and second layer portions.

Abstract: A system and method for measuring a capacitance value of a capacitor are provided. In embodiments, a resistor is coupled to a terminal of the capacitor. A difference in voltage at the terminal between a first time and a second time during a discharge routine of the capacitor is measured. The discharge routine includes sinking a current through a discharge circuit coupled to the resistor from first to second. Integration of a difference in voltage at terminals of the resistor during the discharge routine between the first and second times is also measured. The capacitance value is computed based on the measured difference in voltage, the measured integration, and the resistance value of the resistor. The health of the capacitor is determined based on a difference between the computed capacitance value and a threshold value.

Abstract: A road condition detection device, to be coupled to the wheel of a vehicle, is provided with: an electrostatic charge variation sensor, to provide a charge variation signal indicative of an electrostatic charge variation associated with the rotation of the wheel; and a processing unit, coupled to the electrostatic charge variation sensor to receive the charge variation signal and furthermore for receiving a rotation speed signal indicative of the rotation speed of the wheel. In particular, the processing unit jointly processes the rotation speed signal and the charge variation signal to detect a road condition of a wet road condition and a dry road condition.

Abstract: Voice command recognition and natural language recognition are carried out using an accelerometer that senses signals from the vibrations of one or more bones of a user and receives no audio input. Since word recognition is made possible using solely the signal from the accelerometer from a person's bone conduction as they speak, an acoustic microphone is not needed and thus not used to collect data for word recognition. According to one embodiment, a housing contains an accelerometer and a processor, both within the same housing. The accelerometer is preferably a MEMS accelerometer which is capable of sensing the vibrations that are present in the bone of a user as the user is speaking words. A machine learning algorithm is applied to the collected data to correctly recognize words spoken by a person with significant difficulties in creating audible language.

Abstract: The MEMS gyroscope is formed by a substrate, a first mass and a second mass, wherein the first and the second masses are suspended over the substrate and extend, at rest, in a plane of extension defining a first direction and a second direction transverse to the first direction. The MEMS gyroscope further has a drive structure coupled to the first mass and configured, in use, to cause a movement of the first mass in the first direction, and an elastic coupling structure, which extends between the first mass and the second mass and is configured to couple the movement of the first mass in the first direction with a movement of the second mass in the second direction. The elastic coupling structure has a first portion having a first stiffness and a second portion having a second stiffness greater than the first stiffness.

Abstract: A control method of an apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a control unit coupled to a proximity sensor to detect a first distance of a user in a field of view, and coupled to a charge variation sensor to detect an electric/electrostatic charge variation caused by the user in a detection region. The control method includes acquiring a charge variation signal and generating charge variation parameters as a function of the charge variation signal. The control method further includes determining whether a condition on charge variation parameters is verified, and if the condition on charge variation parameters is verified, activating the proximity sensor and acquiring a proximity signal. Proximity parameters are generated as a function of the proximity signal. If a condition on proximity parameters is verified, one or more functionalities of the apparatus are activated.
