Abstract:
A technique of decoding erroneous biphase signals is disclosed comprising the following steps. First, phase and magnitude sample values (ps, bs) are formed, from which a first digital signal (d1) is derived. From this, associated bit combinations (St1, St2; Stp) are determined, and a decision is made as to whether the respective bit combination (St1, St2; Stp) is a valid combination (Sg1, Sg2; Sgp) or an erroneous one (Sf1, Sf2; Sfp). Probability values (Sw1, Sw2; Swp) are determined that decide which parts of the erroneous bit combination (Sf1, Sf2; Sfp) are probably true and/or which are probably false. Next, a corrected bit combination (Sk1, Sk2; Skp) is formed from the existing information. Finally, a second digital signal (d2) is generated as an output signal, whose data states are formed either from the valid bit combination (Sg1, Sg2; Sgp) or from the corrected bit combination (Sk1, Sk2; Skp).

Abstract:
A system (10) for converting streaming digital data to frequency modulated data includes a digital decoder (12) providing content and associated data, a system controller (14) for formatting the associated data into frequency modulated sub-carrier data, and a frequency modulator (20) for modulating (24) the content and combining (25) the modulated content with a buffered version of the frequency modulated sub-carrier data. The streaming digital data can come from a satellite digital audio radio system receiver and the associated data can include at least one among a channel name, a channel number, an artist name, a song title, and traffic information. The system controller can format the associated data into an RDS Message format. The frequency modulator can include an RDS physical layer (32) and an RDS data link layer (30) that can generate a checksum. The frequency modulator can also include a register or buffer (28).
Abstract:
Aspects of the invention comprise a digital mobile terminal system for accessing mobile internet services including a VHF/AM/FM radio receiver and a subsystem that handles interfaces and interactions between the digital mobile terminal and a radio network via a digital (e.g., RDS) data stream, interfaces and interactions between the digital mobile terminal and a mobile internet services platform, and interfaces and interactions between the digital mobile terminal and a user seeking to access and interact with mobile internet services. The present invention also comprises a radio broadcasting server platform for transmitting an RDS data stream including a subsystem that handles interfaces and interaction between the radio broadcasting server platform and a radio network via the digital (e.g., RDS) data stream and interfaces and interactions between the radio broadcasting server platform and a mobile internet services platform.
Abstract:
In transmission systems whereby data packets of a single type and having a fixed structure are used to transmit a given type of information, the invention optimizes the transmission by utilizing data packets of the same type to transmit information of different types and by differentiating the information transmitted in such packets by the rate of re-transmission thereof. In an application of the invention to RDS systems, the block PS is used to transmit both the program service name, as usual, and the radio text, and arrangements are made for the rate of re-transmission of the service name to be high and that of the text to be low, or possibly zero.
Abstract:
A system for providing enhanced radio content to a remote user is disclosed. The system includes at least one input that receives non-radio input; and, at least one output interconnected to the at least one input via a hub, wherein the at least one output receives the enhanced radio content via the hub after at least one manipulation of the non-radio input by the hub to form the enhanced radio content, wherein the at least one manipulation is in accordance with the at least one non-radio input.
Abstract:
The invention is related to a method and a system of providing a service associated with a media stream for user equipment The system comprises a server connected to a communication network for providing the service using the radio interface of the communication network. The system further comprises a broadcast system for providing the media stream. Associating data for associating the media stream with the service is transmitted from the system to the user equipment. The associating data is received, and the system is configured to provide the user equipment with the service by using the associating data.
Abstract:
A receiver is disclosed. The receiver includes a first antenna, a second antenna, a system controller, a national broadcast demodulator, a local broadcast demodulator, and an information output select device. The first antenna for receives a signal from a satellite that contains information of national interest. The second antenna receives a signal from a land-based transmitter that contains information of local interest. The national broadcast demodulator is coupled to the first antenna and the system controller. The national broadcast demodulator provides a first interrupt indicator to the system controller. The local broadcast demodulator is coupled to the second antenna and the system controller. The local broadcast demodulator provides a second interrupt indicator to the system controller. Upon receiving either the first or second interrupt indicator at the system controller, the system controller switches the information output select device between the national broadcast information and the local broadcast information. A method for providing a seamless transition between national broadcast information and local broadcast information for a receiver is also disclosed. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.
Abstract:
The continuing validity of a lookup table in a radio receiver for tuning to digital audio stations is monitored. The radio receiver is tuned to a first designated frequency. A determination is made whether a station identification code is identified in a digital broadcast signal at the first designated frequency matches the designated station identification code in the table entry. The radio receiver is tuned to a next designated frequency. A determination is made whether a next station identification code identified in a next digital broadcast signal at the next designated frequency matches the next designated identification code in a next table entry. A determination is made whether an invalid table condition occurs wherein the invalid table condition is a predetermined number of non-matches from the determining steps. A message is displayed that the lookup table is invalid when the invalid table condition occurs.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for providing an integrated presentation of existing media program services and secondary media program services is described. The method comprises the steps of accepting a election of a secondary media program transmitted on a secondary media program channel; accessing a mapping to determine a primary media program channel associated with the selected secondary media program channel; commanding a first tuner module to receive conditional access information associated with the primary media program channel from the primary service provider; evaluating the conditional access information to determine if a second tuner is authorized to receive the secondary media program channel; and commanding a second tuner module to receive the secondary media program if the second tuner is authorized to receive the secondary media program channel.
