Abstract: A face recognition system and method for face recognition are provided. The face recognition system includes a camera for capturing an input image of a face of a person to be recognized. The face recognition system further includes a cache. The face recognition system further includes a set of one or more processors configured to (i) improve a utilization of the cache by the one or more processors during multiple training stages of a neural network configured to perform face recognition, by performing a stage-wise mini-batch process on a set of samples used for the multiple training stages, and (ii) recognize the person by applying the neural network to the input image during a recognition stage. The stage-wise mini-batch process waits for each of the multiple training stages to complete using a system wait primitive to improve the utilization of the cache.

Abstract: Methods and systems for detecting anomalies include determining a predictive model for each pair of a set of time series, each time series being associated with a component of a system. New values of each pair of time series are compared to values predicted by the respective predictive model to determine if the respective predictive model is broken. A number of broken predictive models is determined. An anomaly alert is generated if the number of broken predictive models exceeds a threshold.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for distributed acoustic sensing in a multimode optical fiber. The system includes a transmitter for simultaneously propagating a sequence of M light pulses through the multimode optical fiber using a spatial mode selected from a set of N spatial modes provided by a spatial mode selector for the transmitter that is coupled to an input to the multimode optical fiber, with M and N being respective integers greater than one. The system further includes a receiver for receiving the sequence of M light pulses at an output of the multimode optical fiber and detecting an environmental perturbation in the multimode optical fiber based on an evaluation of a propagation of the sequence of M light pulses through the multimode optical fiber.

A pruned convolutional neural network (CNN) is configured process information from the one or more sensors to classify events in the monitored environment. CNN filters having the smallest summed weights have been pruned from the pruned CNN. An alert module is configured to detect an intrusion event in the monitored environment based on event classifications. A control module is configured to perform a security action based on the detection of an intrusion event.

Abstract: A system and method for resource management in a heterogeneous wireless network wherein the resources of the mobile communications system are managed on a coarse time-scale and a fine time-scale. The coarse time-scale management comprises a first stage of determining the user association for each of the plurality of TPs followed by a second stage of determining activation fractions for all TPs. The determining of the user association is performed by utilizing a GLS procedure having a Greedy Stage and a Local Search Stage. In the Greedy Stage, new user, TP pairs are analyzed and the pair with the greatest improvement in system utility is selected. In the Local Search Stage, potential swaps are analyzed and a pair offering the greatest improvement that exceeds a threshold is selected. The determining of activation fractions for all TPs is performed by utilizing an auxiliary function method.

Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to the mitigation of multi-path interference from quasi-single-mode fiber using hybrid span configuration and digital signal processing wherein a hybrid span of quasi-single mode fibers and single-mode fibers are used to configure the hybrid span. Additional aspects are directed to introducing a low-baud rate sub-banding signal to reduce the number of DD-LMS taps required when compensating the multi-path interference as the low-baud rate signal requires fewer taps to cover a given range of MPI as compared to a high-baud rate signal. Finally further aspects are directed to an ALMS equalizer which further reduces the number of equalizer taps by shifting its center tap towards the right if higher-order modes transmit slower than a fundamental mode, otherwise the center tap is shifted to the left.
