    摘要: A process is disclosed for the conversion of carbon monoxide in sour synthesis gas mixtures in the presence of a catalyst which is active in the presence of sulfur compounds. The catalyst comprises known sulfactive metal oxides or sulfides supported on a shaped carrier. The catalytically active oxides or sulfides are doubly promoted with an alkali metal compound and an oxide or sulfide of manganese. The two promoters combined in proper ratio provide a synergistic effect on the activity of the catalyst which is enhanced beyond that of the singly promoted catalyst. The catalysts are active at relatively low temperatures of less than 500.degree. F., even in the presence of sulfur compounds. The equilibrium for the conversion of steam and carbon monoxide to hydrogen and CO.sub.2 is favored at lower temperatures.

The method for making the copolymer is described.

    摘要: A process whereby a smectite clay having a cationic exchange capacity of at least 50 meq./100 gm of clay is reacted with a quaternary ammonium compound to yield a cationic structure suitable as a thickener for aqueous suspensions, particularly latex paints and caulks. The general structure of the quaternary ammonium compound is typically a nitrogen atom bonded to four separated carbon chains where one chain can be a methyl or alkyl group containing 10 to 22 carbons, and the second chain an alkyl group containing from 10 to 22 carbons or a polyoxyethylene chain. The third and fourth chains are polyoxyethylene chains where the total munber of ethylene oxide units is from 5 to 200 moles.

    摘要: A methanol synthesis catalyst which comprises a major portion by weight of the oxides of copper and zinc and a minor portion by weight of a thermal stabilizing metal oxide is useful for the synthesis of methanol from the oxides of carbon and hydrogen at relatively low temperatures. The catalyst is characterized in that the ratio of copper oxide to zinc oxide, each expressed as a metal by weight, is in the range of from 2:1 to 3.5:1 and by the intimate association with each other of copper and zinc oxides and with said thermal stabilizing oxide. Further, the catalyst is characterized in that the amount of iron oxides, as an impurity, is less than 150 parts per million.
