    摘要: A plasma propulsion system for aerospace and other applications is disclosed in which an ionized fluid is accelerated through the system by an electric field. The electrons separated from the ionized fluid are accelerated in a direction opposite the ionized flow. A magnetic field decelerates the electrons. The decelerated electrons are collected, conducted downstream, and re-inserted into the ionized flow.

    摘要: An automated dispensing assembly includes a base, and a shuttle mounted in the base and movable under automated control between a loading position and a dispensing position. The shuttle includes a cavity configured to carry an object, such as cover. The depth of the cavity in the shuttle is approximately the same (or less) as the thickness of one of the objects. A storage module is mounted proximate the shuttle. The storage module is configured to store a plurality of objects and includes an opening exposing the next object to be dispensed. The cavity is positioned adjacent the opening in the storage module in the loading position and an edge of the cavity separates the object to be dispensed from the other objects in the storage module as the shuttle moves to the dispensing position.

    摘要: A system, method, and computer-readable medium for deterring network incursion by formulating appropriate responses to attacks. Once an attack is detected, the system may respond in such a manner as to imitate a network device. The system may respond in a manner that provides a high cost to pursue further communication with the system. For example, the system may respond to TCP syn requests and window probes with messages indicating small packet and window sizes. As such, attempts to send packets to the system have a high network and processing cost. An attacking computer running multiple threads may ultimately slow or be disabled as a result of the receiving the responses and attempting to continue to communicate with the system.

    摘要: An apparatus includes a thermo-photovoltaic (TPV) material that is capable of generating electrical power from low temperature heat radiation. An electric field generator is coupled to apply an electric field to the TPV material. The strength of the electric field is sufficient to shift the sensitivity of the TPV material to sense lower frequency radiation than the TPV material can sense when the electric field is not applied and to broaden the band of frequencies over which the TPV is effective.

    摘要: A plasma jet system includes a housing with an opening. A plasma generator is coupled to ionize a fluid in the housing. An electromagnetic accelerator is coupled to generate an electric field that accelerates ionized fluid in the housing toward the opening. A controller can modulate the frequency of the electric field to cause the ionized fluid to form a plasma vortex flow through the opening. A magnetic field is applied normal to the direction of the plasma vortex flow to mitigate the momentum of the electrons. The electrons slowed by the magnetic field can be collected and conducted to a location where they are re-inserted into the plasma vortex flow to maintain charge neutrality.

    摘要: A system is described that includes a network interface attached to a persistent memory unit. The persistent memory unit is configured to receive checkpoint data from a primary process, and to provide access to the checkpoint data for use in a backup process, which provides recovery capability in the event of a failure of the primary process. The network interface is configured to provide address translation information between virtual and physical addresses in the persistent memory unit. In other embodiments, the persistent memory unit is capable of storing multiple updates to the checkpoint state. The checkpoint state and the updates to the checkpoint state, if any, can be retrieved by the backup process periodically, or all at once upon failure of the primary process.

The illustrative data processing system comprises a software-programmable trap control associated with hardware registers of a computer that selectively vectors execution control of a virtual machine (VM) between a host and a guest. The data processing system further comprises a logic which is configured for execution on the computer that programs the trap control to enable the virtual machine to directly access the hardware registers when the virtual machine is not migrated and to revoke direct access of the hardware registers in preparation for virtual machine migration.
