Abstract:
The present invention supports a message protocol on a wireless communication network to setup a shortened slot cycle operation for a mobile station. During wireless, packet-based communication, a mobile station can utilize a shortened slot cycle to increase the frequency a communication channel is monitored by a mobile station while in idle state. While this is advantageous to communication requiring a fast response, it increases power consumption and decreases battery charge time. Under present usage, the shortened slot cycle must be used by all mobile stations connected to the base transceiver whether required or not. To increase efficiency and avoid unnecessary power consumption, the invention allows only those mobile stations that require it to implement the shortened slot cycle. Signaling messages sent from the mobile station to the base station controller will initiate a shortened slot cycle only for that mobile station. Other mobile stations connected to the base transceiver operate without implementing the shortened slot cycle.
Abstract:
A wireless communication network includes a mobile station and a base station which are adapted to allow an ongoing voice call to be converted to a digital fax call without forcing the user to relinquish the line and to restablish a call for the purposes of a transmitting digital fax (fax from a digital device). A base station controller is adapted to respond to an analog tone which prompts the base station to set up a digital fax call even though a voice call is already in place. Similarly, a mobile station is adapted to set up a digital fax call even though a voice call is in place either when it receives the analog tone originated by the PSTN or when it receives an AT command from a personal computer indicating that a digital fax transmission is desired.
Abstract:
An adhesive tape holder having a base and a roller plate is disclosed. An urging member having an urging plate is formed at one end of a notch formed on the roller plate. A pressing plate is disposed on the slot formed at the other end on the notch. The urging plate is in contact with the adhesive tape such that the rotation of hte adhesive tape roll mounted onto a roller will pull it the tape and cut out at a desired length.
Abstract:
A method for communicating additional network information using a synchronization identifier is presented. A synchronization identifier is defined. The synchronization identifier is used for the purpose of synchronizing communication between a Mobile Station (MS) and a network. In addition, the synchronization identifier is used to define additional functionality in the wireless network. As such, the synchronization identifier may be used to communicate information about wireless services and/or wireless components between the MS and the network.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system including a station having communication software for: (1) receiving a capability request from each of a plurality of non-emergency-service-providers, and (2) generating and transmitting a capability request response that includes a status indicator of a non-emergency-services position-determination (NESPD) capability of the station, wherein the NESPD capability of the station is user-selectable to enable or disable all NESPD irrespective of which of the plurality of non-emergency-service-providers is associated with the capability request. Additionally, a method of operating an element of a wireless communication network, comprising: (1) exchanging NESPD messages with a mobile station; (2) receiving a status indicator from the mobile station, at least indirectly, the status indicator indicating that the mobile station is configured to refrain from providing position information for non-emergency-services; and (3) preventing a plurality of NESPD messages from being transmitted to the mobile station in response to receiving the status indicator.
Abstract:
A method and system is provided for controlling data transfer using a short data burst mechanism between a mobile station (MS) and a base station (BS). After identifying that a short data burst mechanism is desired to be used for transmitting data between the MS and the BS, the data is transmitted over a common channel used for communication between the MS and the BS without having to establish a communication link between the MS and the BS over a traffic channel.
Abstract:
To communicate information relating to an application over a wireless link, application control information and application data information are communicated over the wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The application data information is communicated over a traffic flow over the wireless link, and the application control information is communicated in a wireless control message carried in wireless signaling associated with the traffic flow.
Abstract:
A communication network includes first and second network entities capable of over-the-air communication. The second network entity receives at least one message communicated over-the-air by the first network entity. The message includes one or more message fields indicating a number of concurrent over-the-air service instances with the second network entity supported by the first network entity. The second network entity limits a number of concurrent over-the-air service instances requested by the second network entity in accordance with the one or more message fields in the message.
Abstract:
The invention provides methods and systems for extending RSVP signaling to wireless networks. RSVP messages may be intercepted by an RSVP daemon, adjusted as necessary to accommodate the wireless network, and then forwarded on as RSVP messages either on a traffic channel or as a short data burst. Alternatively, the RSVP messages may be encapsulated in layer 3 messages. Alternatively, RSVP messages may be intercepted by another component, such as a PDSN, which then coordinates the establishment of the requested wireless connection.
Abstract:
In a communication system, physical-layer frames for transmission over the physical layer are assembled from link-layer protocol data units (PDU's) by combining several PDU's into a variable-length first block, and providing the first block with an error detection and/or correction code such as a CRC. The first blocks are mapped into fixed-length second blocks, including repetitive copies of the first blocks if space permits. The second blocks are mapped into physical-layer frames, including repetitive copies of the second blocks if space permits. After reception of the frames, the replication enhances the probability of recovering correct PDU's as verified by the error detection and correction codes.
