    摘要: A catheter for delivering drugs or other agents is disclosed particularly suited for delivering drugs proximate the walls of a vessel or lumen, such as an artery or vein. The catheter comprises a shaft with a distal portion comprising at least one and preferably a plurality of delivery members. When deployed, the delivery members flare from the catheter shaft at an acute or obtuse angle. At least a portion of the delivery members are within a restraining member such as a sleeve or thread, for example, to maintain the delivery member within the diameter of the shaft prior to deployment. Delivery lumens provide drugs to ports in the delivery members for delivery out of the catheter. The delivery members preferably bear against the wall of the vessel when deployed, to deliver the drug or other agent proximate the walls of the blood vessel, where blood flow is slow. In another embodiment the delivery members comprise a first tapered portion, a second longitudinal portion and a plurality of drug delivery ports.

    摘要: An optically-coupled device package including a housing containing an optical device further includes an optical fiber assembly which comprises an optical cable with a support sleeve on its end. The support sleeve comprises a body with an axial opening therethrough and has a plurality of holes near a first end. The optical cable includes a first portion comprising a protective coating overlying an optical fiber, and a second portion comprising an optical fiber extending from said coating. The cable enters the first end of the sleeve and nodules integral with the protective coating extend into the plurality of holes. In one embodiment, the optical fiber is sealed to the inside of the sleeve through a solder window provided through the side of the sleeve. The second end of the sleeve extends through an aperture in said housing and is aligned to the device therein. The invention also includes a method for making such a fiber assembly which comprises inserting the optical cable into a first end of the sleeve, forming nodules integral with the protective coating which extend into the plurality of holes. The method may comprise sealing the optical fiber to the inside of the sleeve through a solder window in said sleeve. Fabrication of an optically-coupled device package further comprises inserting the fiber assembly through an aperture in said housing and aligning said fiber with the optical device therein.

    摘要: Disclosed is a system and method for generating two dimensional renderings on a display device of acoustic volumetric data that provides depth perception to the user. The system includes an acoustic data acquisition circuit, which includes a sonic transducer and other components, that generates and stores an acoustic data set from medium such as a human body, etc. A scan converter generates a perspective volumetric data set of the medium based upon the acoustic data set, and a single dimensional interpolator that generates at least one interpolated data set from the perspective volumetric data set. The perspective volumetric and interpolated data sets are processed by a compositor that generates two dimensional renderings of the perspective volumetric data set and the interpolated data sets. The system includes a display device which displays the two dimensional renderings in a predetermined fashion to provide depth perception to the viewer.

    摘要: Quadrature demodulation apparatus and method for detecting a contrast agent in an ultrasonic echographic system, including an in phase/quadrature demodulator for determining the resolved complex real and imaginary in phase and quadrature components of return signals and a contrast agent detector determining the complex difference between first and second return signals. The detector is implemented as a magnitude of difference detector determining the magnitude of the complex difference of pairs of first and second return signals wherein the real and imaginary components of the return signals, including magnitude and phase information, are used to determine the magnitude of the complex difference between first and second return signals. The detector is also implemented as an asymmetrical weighting detector resolving the complex difference between first and second return signals into components in phase with and orthogonal to the second signal and weighting the magnitudes of in phase and orthogonal components of the complex difference and indicating a contrast agent present when the combination of differently weighted component exceeds the corresponding threshold value. The detector is also implemented as an extrapolation detector for receiving three successive return signals along each line wherein the second return signal and a third return signal are used to extrapolate what the first return signal would have been without the contrast agent component and to generate a decision threshold that is compared to the complex difference between the actual first return signal and the extrapolated first return signal.

The present system also includes an acoustic line memory coupled to the envelope detector configured to store the first echo envelope, and an arithmetic junction coupled to the envelope detector, the arithmetic junction configured to subtract the first echo envelope from the second echo envelope, thereby canceling nonlinearities.
