Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for controlling bitrates in an optimal manner by use of information available for use by the pre-decoder, in wavelet-based scalable video coding art using the pre-decoder. A method for controlling bitrates includes the steps of determining the amount of bits for each coding unit relative to a bitstream generated by encoding an original image so as to minimize distortion of the final image from the original image, and extracting a bitstream having the target amount of bits by truncating a part of the generated bitstream based on the determined amount of bits.
Abstract:
An interframe wavelet video coding (IWVC) method by which an average temporal distance (ATD) is minimized is provided. The IWVC method comprises receiving a group-of-frames and decomposing the group-of-frames into difference frames and first average frames between the frames in a first forward temporal direction and a backward temporal direction, wavelet-decomposing the first difference frames and the first average frames, and quantizing coefficients resulting from the wavelet-decomposition to generate a bitstream. The IWVC method provides improved video coding performance.
Abstract:
A laptop computer with an alarm function using an LCD on/off switch includes: a microcomputer both for controlling the LCD back-light section on/off operation in response to the on/off state of an LCD on/off switch and for generating an interrupt signal; an alarm processor for determining whether or not the interrupt signal is a burglar alarm signal and outputs an alarm in case of a robbery; and a password determining section for comparing a password entered by a user with a previously set password and interrupting the generation of an alarm only when both passwords are identical. A burglar alarm is sounded when an interrupt occurs so when to indicate a robbery as the LCD on/off switch is turned on against a user's will during the operation of the computer. Also, it can interrupt the alarm by a user inputting a correct password during the generation of the alarm.

A video compression method, and more particularly, a prediction method for efficiently eliminating redundancy within a video frame, and a video compression method and an apparatus using the prediction method are provided. There is provided a method for encoding video based on a multi-layer structure, including performing intra-prediction on a current intra-block using images of neighboring intra-blocks of the current intra-block to obtain a prediction residual, performing prediction on the current intra-block using an image of a lower layer region corresponding to the current intra-block to obtain a prediction residual, selecting one of the two prediction residuals that offers higher coding efficiency, and encoding the selected prediction residual.
Abstract:
A video encoder/decoder and method. The video coding method includes estimating a virtual frame, electing a reference frame from candidate frames including the virtual frame to remove temporal redundancy using the elected reference frame, coding a motion vector and predetermined information obtained in removing the temporal redundancy, and obtaining transform coefficients from the frames free from the temporal redundancy and quantizing the obtained transform coefficients to generate a bit-stream. The video decoding method includes receiving a bit-stream and parsing the received bit-stream to extract information on coded frames, inversely quantizing the information on the coded frames to obtain the transform coefficients, and performing inverse spatial transform of the obtained transform coefficients and inverse temporal transform by use of a reference frame including a virtual frame in inverse order to an order in which redundancy of the coded frames is removed and restoring the coded frames. As a result, it is possible to code the video at a higher compression rate.
