Abstract:
A self-supporting sheet-like structure comprises a coating, which reduces sliding friction, on at least one surface of the substrate. The slip-improving coating is produced by treating this substrate surface by means of an electric corona discharge between a high voltage electrode and a grounded counter-electrode while simultaneously spraying an aerosol into the corona discharge zone. The aerosol contains a film-forming agent as a slip agent, for example aqueous solutions or emulsions of monoesters of glycerol and long-chain fatty acids.
Abstract:
A non-sealable, multi-layer polypropylene film which includes a base layer of polypropylene and at least one cover layer. The cover layer includes a propylene-ethylene copolymer which includes about 1.2 to 2.8% by weight of ethylene and has a distribution factor V.sub.F greater than about 10, an enthalpy of fusion .DELTA.H.sub.m greater than about 90 J/g and a melt index of about 3 to 12 g/10 min. under a load of 21.6N and about 230.degree. C. The film is particularly useful in laminating and as a support film for aqueous coating systems.
Abstract:
A three layer, biaxially-oriented polyolefin film which is sealable on both exterior surfaces and includes a base layer of polypropylene which carries two sealing layers of sealable olefin polymers. The base layer includes about 0.5 to 2% by weight of polydialkylsiloxane having a viscosity of less than about 500 mm.sup.2 /s. The film is particularly well-suited for the reception of aqueous printing inks or as a substrate for aqueous coating systems.
Abstract:
For packaging purposes, metallized multilayer films containing a biaxially oriented polypropylene film as a base layer should have high scratch resistance, good heat-sealing properties, such as low heat-sealing temperature, attractive visual properties, such as high metallic luster, excellent metallizability of the base layer or of a covering layer, and also good processing properties during metallization, printing, slitting, and during processing on fast-running packaging machines. This requirement profile is fulfilled by a multilayer film of asymmetric structure containing a biaxially oriented base layer 4 composed of polypropylene, a heat-sealing layer 3 which contains an additive combination composed of pigment in platelet form and siloxane and which is optionally modified by an addition of polypropylene and a hydrocarbon resin, and of a corona-treated polypropylene covering layer 2 which is not capable of being heat-sealed. A corona-treated, heat-sealable copolymer may also be used as the covering layer 2, instead of a covering layer 2 composed of non-heat-sealable polypropylene. The covering layer 2 can also be omitted; in that case the surface of the base layer 4 is metallized. Tubular bags, jackets, containers of various shape for packaging foodstuffs, including the vacuum packaging of foodstuffs, are manufactured from this multilayer film.
Abstract:
A packaging wrapper for disk-shaped magnetic information carriers is disclosed. The wrapper is formed by folding over a blank to form a flat wrapper. The wrapper has projecting tabs jutting out laterally from the sides of the front wrapper wall and overlap zones on the rear wrapper wall formed as a result of folding-over of the projecting tabs. The projecting tabs are firmly bonded to the rear wrapper wall by means of welding. The blank for forming the packaging wrapper is formed from a biaxially oriented, opaque multi-ply film comprising a base layer consisting essentially of polypropylene and fillers. The fillers are present in a quantity in the range from 10 to 30% by weight, relative to the total weight of the polypropylene and fillers.
Abstract:
An opaque polyolefin film having a three-layer support film and transparent or clear polyolefin covering layers which cover the two surfaces of the support film. In the support film, either the inner layer or the two intermediate layers arranged between the inner layer and the covering layers are composed of a filler-free polyolefin which is modified with a natural or synthetic resin having a softening point ranging from 70.degree. C. to 180.degree. C. The respective non-modified polyolefin layer or layers of the support film have a filler and exhibit a vacuole structure which produces a relatively low density film of less than 0.9 g/cm.sup.3. The production of the opaque polyolefin film comprising five layers is carried out by coextrusion and biaxial stretching, followed by heat setting the coextruded film. The film is advantageously used for packaging purposes.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a biaxially oriented film, predominantly formed from a polyester whose diol component includes at least 80 mol-% of 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM), and whose dicarboxylic acid component includes at least 80 mol-% of one or more benzenedicarboxylic acid(s) and/or one or more naphthalene dicarboxylic acid(s). The dicarboxylic acid component includes a main dicarboxylic acid component forming an at least 55 mol-% portion, chosen from either 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylic acid or terephthalic acid. The dicarboxylic acid component further includes a secondary dicarboxylic acid component, present in an amount of at least 18 mol-%, with the secondary dicarboxylic acid component differing from the main dicarboxylic acid component. The invention further relates to a method for producing the film and its use.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a multilayer, antimicrobially modified, biaxially oriented polyester film that includes at least one base layer (B) and an outer layer (A) that has been applied to the base layer and that has also been antimicrobially modified. The invention further relates to a process for the production of the film, and to the use of the film.
Abstract:
Cyclopentadiene-modified alkyd resins obtained by reaction of naturally occurring, unsaturated fatty acid esters with cyclopentadiene compounds under pressure, transesterification of the resulting adducts with polyols which contain at least three hydroxyl groups, and esterification with aromatic or cycloaliphatic polycarboxylic acids or anhydrides thereof. These resins are employed in the preparation of printing inks for offset printing. The novel resins impart an improved gloss to these printing inks.
