摘要: Optical scanning of bar code symbols in which light reflected from the scanned symbol is collected with stationary light collection optics and swept across an array of individual light detection elements (e.g., photodetectors). Detection circuitry determines which of the detection elements is receiving the incoming light beam at a given time, and produces an output signal based preferably only on the outputs of those detection elements. The selection of detection elements to be used in forming the output signal may be made by synchronizing the sampling of the detection elements with the scanning movement of the outgoing light beam. Alternatively, the selection may be based on the output level of the detection elements (e.g., by only using outputs that exceed a predetermined threshold).

摘要: Time-critical events are localized within a clocked electronic circuit without requiring cyclical operation By way of measuring at the outputs of the circuit, the limit frequency of the circuit is identified. A test pattern sequence is then applied to this circuit. The number n of that test pattern at which errors are perceived at the outputs is identified, in particular with a clock frequency higher than the identified limit frequency of the circuit. The test patterns having the numbers n-m are applied to the circuit with a clock frequency greater than the identified limit frequency of the circuit and the remaining n test patterns are applied to the circuit with a clock frequency lower than the identified limit frequency of the circuit, being applied thereto in succession step-by-step with m=1,2,3 . . . in at least one run of n test patterns. A check is carried out after every run of a test pattern sequence of n test patterns as to whether an error still exist at the output until an error can no longer be documented at the output and a determination is thus made with respect to which test pattern having the number n-m the error is generated within the -circuit. An error tracking technique is carried out in order to localize the cause of error within the electronic circuit.

摘要: A method for automatically setting an operating point in signal curve measurements with particle beam measuring apparatus. An automatic setting of the operating point is provided when no specific point in time is known at which a reference potential is present at a measuring location. Given stroboscopically keyed primary particles, a periodic signal curve, which also comprises a specific reference potential in addition to other potentials, is applied to the measuring location. The keying phase of the keyed primary particles is varied with respect to the periodic signal curve. The periodic signal curve is quantitatively registered in this fashion. The phase point of the qualitatively registered signal curve which corresponds to the specific reference potential at the measuring location is identified. A keying phase of the primary particles is kept constant during the setting of the operating point, and is kept constant to phase points at which the reference potential is present at the measuring location.

摘要: A method of operating a laser scanner for reading a barcode. The laser scanner is configured to operate in at least two operating modes including a scanning mode and an aiming mode. The method includes operating the laser scanner in the scanning mode after a trigger signal is generated by a trigger on the laser scanner, and decoding the electrical signal that is received from the photodetector when the laser scanner is in the scanning mode. If the electrical signal from the photodetector is not successfully decoded after a first predetermined time period since the trigger signal is generated, alternating the laser scanner between the aiming mode and the scanning mode.

摘要: An integrated optical module for an optical scanner has a lens spaced from a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) by a spacer of defined dimensions. The module, in an alternative embodiment, includes a wafer frame, a suspended mirror mounted for oscillation on the frame, a wafer substrate bonded beneath the frame and a wafer cover bonded above the frame. The cover includes a mirror travel stop to protect the mirror against shocks. A VCSEL mounted to the wafer cover produces a beam which is shaped and deflected by a diffractive optical element onto the oscillating mirror. The reflected beam passes out of the module toward an indicia to be read. Large numbers of such devices may be fabricated relatively cheaply using wafer-scale processing and assembly technology. Three large wafers are fabricated corresponding respectively to arrays of substrates, frames and covers. The large wafers are bonded together in a sandwich arrangement, and are then diced to produce the individual scan modules. The modules may provide either one-dimensional or two-dimensional scanning.

摘要: A method and an apparatus for storing measured data from a sputter crater which is generated and analyzed in a secondary ion mass spectrometer is considerably more simple and cost-effective than techniques requiring complete data storage and is an improvement over the known standard integral method. The region swept by the ion beam of a secondary ion mass spectrometer is subdivided into a plurality of sub-areas, one location in a memory is assigned to each of the sub-areas, the signal components occurring from the individual sub-areas are stored in the assigned memory locations during a sweep of the sputter crater with the ion beam, and the measured data are evaluated after the end of at least one scan of the sputter crater.

摘要: In an electro-optical reader, an aiming or a scanning laser has a laser chip and a monitor photodiode. Output power of a laser beam emitted by the laser is regulated by a feedback circuit for maintaining substantially constant the laser beam output power during normal operation, a disabling circuit for disabling the feedback circuit, a drive circuit for driving the chip with a drive current when the feedback circuit is disabled, and for concomitantly generating a photodiode output voltage, a current modification circuit for modifying the drive current by a predetermined current with a concomitant change in the photodiode output voltage when the feedback circuit is disabled, and a control circuit for monitoring the change in the photodiode output voltage, for determining whether the change in the photodiode output voltage is sufficient to indicate an over-power condition, and for interrupting power to the chip when the over-power condition is indicated.

The method includes the following steps: (1) driving a drive coil with a drive signal to oscillate a scan mirror and a light beam reflected from the scan mirror; (2) generating a feedback signal having zero crossings during oscillation of the scan mirror by a feedback coil in proximity to the drive coil; (3) integrating the feedback signal to generate an integrated feedback signal; and (4) processing the integrated feedback signal to generate a periodic drive signal that has the same time period as the feedback signal.
