Abstract: Provided are methods of producing size-selected nucleic acid libraries. The methods include contacting a nucleic acid sample and a nucleic acid binding reagent including an affinity tag, under conditions in which nucleic acids of less than a desired length are substantially bound to the nucleic acid binding reagent and nucleic acids of the desired length are substantially not bound to the nucleic acid binding reagent. The conditions include the duration of the contacting, the concentration of the nucleic acid binding reagent, or both. The methods further include separating, using the affinity tag, the nucleic acids of less than the desired length bound to the nucleic acid binding reagent from the nucleic acids of the desired length not bound to the nucleic acid binding reagent, to produce a size-selected nucleic acid library. Compositions and kits that find use, e.g., in practicing the methods of the present disclosure, are also provided.

Abstract: Methods and hydrogels for preventing or reducing cellular adhesion and protein adsorption to a tissue (e.g. cardiac tissue) are disclosed. The hydrogels generally include at least three component polymers, a first polymer including an aminooxy group, a second polymer including a reactive oxo group, that are cross-linked by oxime bonds and a third polymer including a catechol group, that causes better retention on the cardiac tissue. The hydrogels are suitable for binding to and coating a tissue or cell. The hydrogels operate to reduce cellular adhesions and protein adsorption to the tissue or cell.

Abstract: A method of growing III-nitride-based devices, such as light emitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes (LDs) on or above a strain relaxed template (SRT). The SRT uses a thin, thermally decomposed, InGaN underlayer, which is referred to as a decomposition layer (DL). Above the DL is a n-type GaN or low composition InGaN decomposition stop layer (DSL). A buffer layer comprising an n-type InGaN/GaN superlattice (SL) is then grown. For an LD structure. an n-type waveguide layer comprising a second n-type InGaN/GaN SL is then grown. followed by an active region, a p-type electron blocking layer (EBL), a p-type waveguide layer comprising a p-type InGaN/GaN SL, and p-type GaN or p-type InGaN layers. For an LED structure, the waveguide layers may be omitted. In this disclosure, AlGaN means AlxGa(1-x)N with 1≥x≥0 and InGaN means InxGa(1-x)N with 1≥x≥0.

Abstract: Provided herein are methods of removing carbon dioxide from an aqueous stream or gaseous stream by: contacting the gaseous stream comprising carbon dioxide, when present, with an aqueous solution comprising ions capable of forming an insoluble carbonate salt; contacting the aqueous solution comprising carbon dioxide with an electroactive mesh that induces its alkalinization thereby forcing the precipitation of a carbonate solid from the solution and thereby the removal of dissolved inorganic carbon by electrolysis; and removing the precipitated carbonate solids from the solution, or the surface of the mesh where they may deposit. Also provided herein are flow-through electrolytic reactors comprising an intake device in fluid connection with a rotating cylinder comprising an electroactive mesh, and a scraping device and/or liquid-spray based device for separating a solid from the mesh surface.

Abstract: Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS1) deficiency is a metabolic disorder of the liver that results m abnormal nitrogen metabolism. To illustrate the ability of gene therapy to treat CPS1 deficiency, two adeno-associated viruses encoding portions of a codon optimized CPS1 were generated and tested in a conditional CPS1 knock out mouse model. When administered to mice having knocked out endogenous CPS1 expression, mice from this model demonstrate homologous recombination and reconstitution of the codon optimized CPS1 gene, expression of the CPS1 protein and the associated control of plasma ammonia following the administered AAVs comprising the CPS1 gene sequences. While all control mice perish, the mice in this model live and have normal behavior. As there is no effective therapy for human patients with the CPS1 disorder, this invention can address this unmet need for these patients.
