A nonshrinkable, thermoplastic and injectable endodontic filling composition. The composition is a mixture of transpolyisoprene, either naturally produced as balata or gutta percha, or synthesized from isoprene, and a liquid castor ester platicizer. Alternatively, the mixture comprises transpolyisoprene, a liquid castor ester plasticizer and a liquid castor oil or dimethyl silcon fluid lubricant. The mixture is preferably a combination of the transpolyisoprene, the liquid castor ester plasticizer and the liquid castor oil or liquid dimethyl silicon fluid lubricant or both. The composition is compounded to form a highly thermoplastic material which is injectable at a clinically acceptable temperature with a manually operated injection system without shrinkage of the composition after placement in a dental root canal.

A method and a cloning vector are described for the controlled accumulation of cloned heterologous gene products in Bacillus subtilis. The cloning vector is capable of being replicated in B. subtilis and includes the heterologous gene located and oriented such as to be under the control of an operator, promoter, and ribosome binding site sequence. The gene codes for a protein which is under the control of a transport mechanism by which the protein is secreted by the B. subtilis. The gene product is recovered from the growth medium for the B. subtilis. The cloning vector is also capable of similar use in other bacteria such as E. coli.

A sensing element includes a field-effect transistor (FET) with an ultra-thin channel, a reference electrode, a first and a second passivation layer, and a microchannel. The first and the second passivation layer enclose a first and a second portion of the FET, respectively. The microchannel is bonded to the first and the second passivation layer, such that the microchannel is extended across the channel of the ultra-thin channel FET. The ultra-thin channel has a chemically or physically modified surface. When an analyte to be tested passes through the microchannel and is in contact with the modified surface of the ultra-thin channel, it results in changes in the conductance of the ultra-thin channel FET. Trace detection may be conducted on the analyte by observing changes in the conductance. A method for manufacturing the sensing element and a biological detection system employing the sensing element are also provided.

A fixing device includes a muffler and a catalyst mantle. The muffler is communicated with an exhausting route of an internal combustion engine. The muffler has at least one clapboard to divide inner space thereof for forming a plurality of expanding rooms, which are communicated with each other and configured for guiding waste gas. The catalyst mantle is integrated on the clapboard. The catalyst mantle has an admission terminal and an exhaust terminal communicated with the plurality of expanding rooms. A substrate having catalyst coated thereon is arranged in the catalyst mantle between the admission terminal and the exhaust terminal. At least one block is configured for preventing the substrate sliding to the exhaust terminal and a stopper is formed on the clapboard or an inner wall of the muffler for preventing the substrate sliding to the admission terminal. The fixing device improves the fixing capacity of the substrate, and decreases the manufacturing steps for arranging the catalyst mantle in the muffler.

A catalytic apparatus is used for a motorcycle with an engine. The catalytic apparatus includes an engine exhaust manifold, a silencer, a front exhaust pipe positioned between the engine exhaust manifold and the silencer, a front supply pipe connected to the engine exhaust manifold and configured for supplying secondary air, and at least one catalytic converter positioned in the silencer. A catalyst is coated on an inner wall of the front exhaust pipe. The catalyst receives the secondary air supplied by the front supply pipe to clean engine exhaust gases. Particularly, when the motorcycle is started in a cold state, the present catalytic apparatus can enhance the temperature of the engine exhaust gases, and the at least one catalytic converter can be accelerated to reach its operating temperature.
