    Abstract: Some embodiments are directed to an apparatus for detecting and suppressing DC electric arcs at a component, and are particularly adapted for vehicle wiring harnesses. The apparatus can include a detector circuit electrically connected to input and output terminals so as to be electrically connected in parallel to the component, the detector circuit being configured to detect a significant voltage spike across the component upon the component actuating between open and closed positions. The detector circuit can also be configured to transmit a control signal upon detecting the significant voltage spike. The detector circuit can include multiple circuit elements, enabling both the detection of the significant voltage spike and the transmission of the control signal, that are directly electrically connected to each other. A switching circuit conducts electricity from the power source side of the component to the load side of the component upon receipt of the control signal.

    Abstract: A self-aligning busbar assembly includes a housing, a busbar having a first terminal connecting end, a second terminal connecting end, and a jog portion disposed therebetween, and a front holder coupled to the housing and the busbar. The front holder includes an inner wall defining a busbar receiving aperture to receive at least a portion of the busbar, and at least one flexible tab extending inwardly from the inner wall into the busbar receiving aperture. The at least one flexible tab is configured to bias and center the at least a portion of the busbar within the busbar receiving aperture. At least one clearance is defined in the busbar receiving aperture between the inner wall and the busbar and is configured to enable at least one of the first and second terminal connecting ends to move to account for tolerances and/or variances during installation of the busbar assembly.

    Abstract: A wire assembly securement apparatus comprises a retainer body and first and second elongated arms. The retainer body is configured to attach, via a plurality of binding attachments, to a wire assembly. The first and second elongated arms are structured to extend from the retainer body and facilitate, via the plurality of binding attachments, attachment of the retainer body to the wire assembly. A retainer portion has a passage formed therein which is configured to a protrusion, such as a mounting stud. In various embodiments, first and second capture flanges extend via the passage and are configured to secure the securement apparatus to the protrusion. In various embodiments, the retainer body and first and second elongated arms are structured to attach to the wire assembly via a plurality of types of binding attachments.

    Abstract: A convoluted tube for enclosing a wire harness can include a tubular body portion extending in a longitudinal direction. The tubular body portion can define a slit that extends in the longitudinal direction and that separates first and second contact surfaces of the tubular body portion. The convoluted tube can also include a conductive ink coupled to at least one of the first and second contact surfaces. The conductive ink can be configured to generate heat when an appropriate magnetic field is applied. The first contact surface can be configured to fuse with the second contact surface upon application of the appropriate magnetic field to the conductive ink such that the wire harness enclosed within the interior of the tubular body portion does not extend through the slit.

    Abstract: A connector assembly that includes first and second connector housings, which are configured to hold a plurality of male terminals, a pair of lock tabs, which are disposed on opposite sides of the first connector housing, and a male terminal protector that is engaged to the lock tabs to protect ends of the male terminals that are to engage the female terminals when the second connector housing is fully mated to the first connector housing. The male terminal protector is released from the lock tabs when the second connector housing is positioned in a connector pre-set condition so that they do not impede movement of the male terminal protector when the second connector is moved toward the first connector housing to align and mate the female terminals with the male terminals.

    Abstract: An electrical device according to the principles of the present disclosure includes a frame, a conductor having a conductive element and an electrically insulating cover disposed about at least a portion of the conductive element, and a busbar mounted to the frame. The busbar includes a busbar body and a weld crimp. The weld crimp has a base, which extends from the busbar body, and a cross-member that is coupled to the base on a side of the base that is opposite the busbar body. The cross-member has a weld portion and a crimp portion. The weld portion intersects the base. The crimp portion intersects the weld portion and has a crimp member that receives the conductor. The crimp member is permanently deformed about the conductor so as to apply a clamping force to the conductor. The conductive element is welded to the weld portion.
