Abstract: Use of a curable composition comprising at least one epoxy resin and at least one epoxy curative composition as a curable shim for filling gaps between two assembled parts of an assembly, wherein the epoxy curative composition comprises at least a first and a second curative wherein the first curative is selected from a cyclic amine having at least one primary amino (—NH2) group and a second curative selected from at least one polyether polyamine comprising at least one polyether unit and separated therefrom by a linking group at least one polyamine unit and further comprising at least one terminal aminoalkyl residue that is branched and comprises a primary amino group (—NH2) and an alkyl branch in an α-, β- or γ-position to the primary amino group wherein the alkyl branch contains from 1 to 6 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Curable epoxy resin compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and composite particles. The composite particles have a porous polymeric core, a nitrogen-based curing agent for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core, and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. The nitrogen-containing curing agent typically does not react with the epoxy resin until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the nitrogen-containing curing agent from the composite particle. Additionally, cured epoxy resins formed from the curable composition and method of forming cured epoxy resins are provided.

Abstract: Curable compositions are provided comprising (i) at least one epoxy resin as specified (ii) an epoxide hardener system comprising (a) a carboxylic acid anhydride, (b) a first amine having a melting point from about 30 C to about 100 C and containing at least one primary amine group; and (c) a second amine having a melting point of from about 50 C to about 180 C and having at least one primary amine group, wherein the first and second amines are selected such that they have a difference in melting points of at least 10 C and wherein the first and second amines are contained in minor amounts by weight as compared to the carboxylic acid anhydride; and (iii) a filler as specified. Also provided are compositions obtainable by curing the curable composition, the use of the curable composition for filling of voids in honeycomb structures and processes for filing voids in honeycomb structures.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention there is provided a method of making a metal part assembly, the method comprising: —providing a first metal part and a second metal part wherein at least one of the first and second metal part comprises a metal panel; —providing an adhesive sheet having a first portion near a first end of the adhesive sheet and a second portion near a second end opposite to the first end of the adhesive sheet, the adhesive sheet comprising a thermosettable composition that comprises a mixture of a first and second epoxy compound and an epoxy curing agent, wherein the first epoxy compound has a weight average molecular weight of at least 1000 g/mol and has an amount of epoxy groups of between 5 and 10 mole % and the second epoxy compound has a weight average molecular weight of not more than 400 g/mol and wherein the weight ratio of first to second epoxy compound is between 0.8 and 4; —adhering said first and second metal part together such that the adhesive sheet is provided between said first and second metal part thereby forming a metal joint; and heating the metal joint so as to cause thermosetting of the thermosettable composition of the adhesive sheet.
