Abstract:
Compositions are provided that include a matrix and a polymeric composite particles disposed in the matrix. The polymeric composite particles include a porous polymeric core and a fragrance positioned within the porous polymeric core. Polymeric composite particles are also provided including a porous polymeric core, a fragrance positioned within the porous polymeric core, and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. Further, a method of determining a minimum temperature of a composition is provided including providing a composition including polymeric composite particles disposed in a matrix, heating the composition, releasing at least a portion of the fragrance as a vapor from the porous polymeric core of the polymeric composite particles at or above the minimum temperature, and detecting at least a portion of the fragrance vapor in a location outside of the matrix.
Abstract:
Curable compositions are provided including a curable system that requires a thermally generated amine to cause curing of the system, and a self-assembled particle distributed in the curable system. The curable system contains at least one reactive moiety and the self-assembled particle comprises a reactive amine ionically bound to a chromonic network. A multilayer article is also provided, including a substrate, a chromonic amine layer disposed on the substrate, and a curable layer disposed on the chromonic amine layer. Methods of making a cured composition and of adhering two substrates together are further provided.
Abstract:
A film is described comprises a (meth)acrylic polymer and a polyvinyl acetal (e.g. butyral) resin. The film has a tensile elastic modulus of at least 1 MPa at 25° C. and 1 hertz and a glass transition temperature (i.e. Tg) less than 30 C. The film typically comprises photoinitiator as a result of the method by which the film was made. In one embodiment, the film is heat bondable and further comprising a backing.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides an crosslinkable composition comprising a (meth)acrylate copolymer component having pendant photobase functional groups and a crosslinking agent that has amine-reactive functional groups. On exposure to light, the pendant photobase group photolyzes to provide a pendant amine group, that crosslinks the copolymer.
Abstract:
Articles are provided, including a substrate having a first major surface, the substrate including a nonwoven material, a woven material, or a foam. The article further includes microcapsules having an outer surface and a plasticizer encapsulated in the microcapsules, where the plurality of microcapsules is attached to the first major surface of the substrate with a polymeric material. A method of making an article is also provided, including providing a substrate having a first major surface and providing microcapsules having an outer surface and a plasticizer encapsulated in the microcapsules. The method further includes attaching the microcapsules to the first major surface of the substrate with a polymeric material, thereby forming a polymeric matrix attached to the first major surface of the substrate.
Abstract:
Coextruded polymeric article comprising first segments each having first and second opposed major surfaces and a thickness, the first segments comprising first material; second segments comprising second material, wherein adjacent first segments are joined together via a second segment, wherein at least 10 percent by number of the second segments extend from the second major surface past the first major surface of each first adjacent segment and has a distal end, the second segments having first and second opposed major surfaces, wherein there is a gap between adjacent second segments; and adhesive on the first and second major surfaces of at least every other second segment except a portion of the major surface adjacent to the respective distal end is free of the adhesive, wherein the first segments, second segments, and adhesive each extend continuously for at least 5 mm. Uses for coextruded polymeric articles described herein include adhesive articles and household cleaning products (e.g., as mops, dusters, brushes, cleaning cloths, and lint rollers).

Abstract:
Curable epoxy resin compositions are provided that are mixtures containing an epoxy resin and composite particles. The composite particles have a porous polymeric core, a nitrogen-based curing agent for an epoxy resin positioned within the porous polymeric core, and a coating layer around the porous polymeric core. The nitrogen-containing curing agent typically does not react with the epoxy resin until the curable composition is heated causing the release of the nitrogen-containing curing agent from the composite particle. Additionally, cured epoxy resins formed from the curable composition and method of forming cured epoxy resins are provided.
