Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for scheduling radio resource control connections between a wireless device and a network element of a network in advance. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may provide an indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic to the network element. The network element may schedule one or more radio resource control connections for the wireless device based at least in part on the indication of one or more types of upcoming data traffic. The network element may provide an indication of the scheduled radio resource control connection(s) to the wireless device. The wireless device and the network may establish the scheduled radio resource control connection at the scheduled time.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device and associated methods for entering a suspended baseband state in response to a signal strength indicator falling below a threshold. A UE engages in an active connection with a remote server, which may be a transmission control protocol (TCP) push connection. A baseband layer of the UE determines that the signal strength indicator has fallen below a threshold, and transmits a notification to an application layer of the UE to suspend the connection. The baseband layer may later determine that the signal strength has risen above a second threshold, whereby the UE may resume the suspended connection. The UE may maintain state information associated with the connection during the suspended state, such that the UE may resume the suspended connection without reestablishing a new connection with the remote server.

Abstract: Mechanisms enabling link-budget-limited (LBL) devices to more effectively perform random access may include: (1) broadcasting a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) configuration index (PCI) reserved for LBL devices; (2) configuring LBL devices to use a PCI that is offset from the conventional PCI of current cell; (3) configuring LBL devices to transmit PRACH messages using an alternative set of subframes, different from conventionally-defined subframe set; (4) configuring LBL devices to transmit PRACH messages on odd frames when the conventional PRACH configuration specifies even frames; (5) configuring LBL devices to generate and use extra PRACH preambles that are not used by non-LBL devices; (6) configuring LBL devices to use group B preambles while non-LBL devices are configured to use group A preambles; and (7) boosting power of a random access response message after an Nth random access failure with preamble conforming to an LBL-reserved pattern of preambles.

Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a user equipment device (UE), and associated methods for enabling the UE to estimate motion of the UE based on cell type. In some embodiments, in response to determining that a serving cell of the UE is not a macro cell, a motion estimation algorithm may be disabled for at least a first time period and when the first time period lapses, the motion estimation algorithm may be partially enabled to estimate speed of the UE for at least a second time period. In response to the speed of the UE remaining above a speed threshold for at least the second time period, the motion estimation algorithm may be fully enabled. In response to the speed of the UE not remaining above the speed threshold for at least the second time period, the motion estimation algorithm may be disabled for at least a third time period.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for UEs (including link budget limited UEs) to improve communications performance with a cellular network. A UE may be configured to provide a request (for a first process executed by the UE) for a high-bandwidth connection to a base station of a cellular network during a first RRC connection. In some embodiments, the RRC connection is established by another process. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to receive signaling from the base station indicating that the base station cannot satisfy the high-bandwidth connection request and the UE is configured not to send or receive data for the high-bandwidth connection during the first RRC connection in response to the signaling. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to re-send the request on a second, subsequent RRC connection that is not established by the first process. In some embodiments, the UE is configured to opportunistically re-send the request on subsequent RRC connections established by one or more other processes until the base station is able to grant the request.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to several techniques for reducing the occurrence of data collisions, which can occur when multiple devices simultaneously transmit data in the same (frequency) channel. For example, a turnaround time in which a device switches from a receive mode of operation to a transmit mode of operation may be reduced based on the device and another device indicating that they are capable of operating with a reduced turnaround. As another example, devices may use learning-based turnaround estimation to determine a turnaround time supported by other devices and utilize the determined turnaround time, for instance, instead of a longer turnaround time. As yet another example, multiple clear channel assessments may be performed before transmitting data. For instance, a first clear channel assessment may be performed during a backoff period, and a second clear channel assessment may be performed afterwards before data is transmitted.
