    摘要: According to one embodiment, a magnetoresistive element includes a stack and a pair of electrodes that allows electric current to flow through the stack in a direction perpendicular to a surface of the stack. The stack includes a cap layer, a magnetization pinned layer, a magnetization free layer provided between the cap layer and the magnetization pinned layer, a tunneling insulator provided between the magnetization pinned layer and the magnetization free layer, and a functional layer provided within the magnetization pinned layer, between the magnetization pinned layer and the tunneling insulator, between the tunneling insulator and the magnetization free layer, within the magnetization free layer, or between the magnetization free layer and the cap layer. The functional layer includes an oxide including at least one element selected from Zn, In, Sn and Cd and at least one element selected from Fe, Co and Ni.

    摘要: There is disclosed a disk drive having a magnetic device for applying a direct current magnetic field to the disk 1 by using a disk with a double-layered structure in which a soft magnetic layer is provided on a lower layer of the recording magnetic layer. The magnetic device generates a direct current magnetic field to uniform a magnetic domain state of the soft magnetic layer of the disk. The intensity of the direct current is larger than the anisotropic magnetic field of the soft magnetic layer and is smaller than the coercive force of the recording magnetic layer. As a consequence, the stabilization of the magnetic domain state of the soft magnetic layer of the disk can be realized to make an attempt of decreasing the magnetic noise and establishing stabilization with respect to the disturbance magnetic field.

    摘要: There is disclosed a disk drive having a magnetic device for applying a direct current magnetic field to the disk 1 by using a disk with a double-layered structure in which a soft magnetic layer is provided on a lower layer of the recording magnetic layer.     摘要: There are provided a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium which is excellent in terms of both the recording and reproduction characteristics and the thermal fluctuation characteristics without reducing the density and hardness of the perpendicular magnetic layer; a magnetic recording medium; and a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus with which an excellent recording density is achieved, wherein, in the method for manufacturing the magnetic recording medium, at least a portion of the perpendicular magnetic layer 4 is formed as a magnetic layer having a granular structure that contains Co as a major component and also contains an oxide of at least one nonmagnetic metal selected from the group consisting of Cr, Si, Ta, Al, Ti, W and Mg; a target for forming the perpendicular magnetic layer 4 by the sputtering process is prepared so as to include an oxide of Co and a compound of Co and at least one nonmagnetic metal selected from the group consisting of Cr, Si, Ta, Al, Ti, W and Mg, and to make the proportion of oxygen contained in the target higher than the proportion of oxygen contained in the perpendicular magnetic layer 4; and a sputtering gas pressure at the time of forming the perpendicular magnetic layer is set to 1 Pa or less.
