    Abstract: Systems, methods, and processors are provided for flexibly configuring network slices in device to device communication. In one example, a baseband processor for a relay user equipment (UE) is configured to cause the UE to receive a UE route selection policy (URSP) from a network. The URSP includes respective URSP rules for routing UE traffic through respective network slices to the network. A first URSP rule indicates whether an associated first network slice is designated for remote UE traffic, relay UE traffic, or both remote UE traffic and relay UE traffic. The baseband processor is configured to cause the UE to establish a device to device (D2D) connection with a remote UE to relay remote UE traffic from the remote UE to a base station and assign the remote UE traffic to at least one network slice based on the URSP.

    Abstract: A device-to-device (D2D) communication application is stored in a memory of a first device, and has an application identifier (ApplicationID) configured to enable D2D communication between two or more devices in proximity. The first device is configured with a user identifier (UserID). A group associated with the D2D communication application can then be established, which includes the first device and one or more second devices, each having the D2D communication capability and an associated UserID, each of the devices exchanging their ApplicationID and UserID with other devices to establish the group. A role in the group is assigned to each device of the first device and one or more second devices, which defines functions for each device to establish the D2D communications. Based on the role of each device, a set of resources from the network are allocated to enable the D2D communication on the D2D communication channel.

    Abstract: A processor comprising memory storing instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to establish a fifth generation (5G) connection associated with a next-generation node-B (gNB) and an access and mobility function (AMF). Additionally, the processor can transmit, based at least in part on a loss of the 5G connection, a connection request message to an enhanced node-B (eNB) and receive, from the eNB, a connection reject message. The connection reject message can include an indication associated with a timer expiry value and the processor can start a timer in accordance with the timer expiry value. The processor can further determine a period of unavailability of a user equipment (UE), transmit a request message indicating the period of unavailability to the AMF, and receive a response message from the AMF.
