Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device may perform uplink (UL) data communication using a first radio access technology (RAT) while performing an UL voice call communication using a second RAT. The UL data communication may be supported by a first subscriber identity module (SIM) and the UL packet switched voice call communication may be supported by a second SIM. The UL voice call communication may be a packet switched communication. The communications may be performed by a radio(s) of the UE. The radio(s) may include shared physical layer resources that are shared between the UL data and UL voice communications. The UE may also include a single transmitter that may be shared between the UL data and UL packet voice communications and the UL data communication may use a first portion of the single transmitter's TTI and the UL voice communication may use a second portion of the single transmitter's TTI.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for handling voice and data under uplink limited conditions in a wireless communication system. A wireless device and a base station may establish a wireless communication link. Transmission time interval bundling (TTI-B) may be enabled for uplink communications between the wireless device and the base station. It may be determined that the wireless device is experiencing uplink limited conditions. One or more rules prioritizing a first type of data over a second type of data for uplink communications may be enabled based on TTI-B being enabled and the wireless device experiencing uplink limited conditions.

Abstract: A method using multiple receivers of a wireless communication device to accelerate cell selection and reselection is disclosed. Multiple receivers of the wireless device are used to implement carrier aggregation in LTE connected mode. The multiple receivers of the wireless device are used to search for cells concurrently across multiple radio frequency bands and/or multiple radio access technologies during cell selection and/or cell reselection procedures. A first receiver and a second receiver of the wireless device each search for cells over different radio frequency bands simultaneously, and accordingly the cell selection and reselection time is effectively reduced compared to using only one receiver. Multiple receivers are also used concurrently, in parallel, to accelerate inter-frequency cell detection and measurement and for inter-RAT searches and measurements.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) comprises a radio having TX and RX paths that include a duplexer, thus facilitating a full-duplex mode. The radio may also have TX and RX paths that exclude the duplexer, and which thus facilitate a half-duplex mode. The UE may be configured to autonomously and opportunistically switch from the full-duplex mode (the paths that include the duplexer) to the half-duplex mode (the paths that exclude the duplexer) when the UE desires to avoid the path loss caused by the duplexer, e.g., to temporarily receive with greater sensitivity and/or transmit with more power, during poor channel conditions. At other times the UE may autonomously decide to remain in full-duplex mode to achieve reduced transmission time, e.g., during time-critical communications such as VoLTE. The UE may autonomously determine whether to use full or half-duplex mode, i.e., without requiring any coordination with network-side devices.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a user equipment device (UE) implements improved communication methods which include radio resource time multiplexing, dynamic sub-frame allocation, and UE transmit duty cycle control. In some embodiments, the UE may communicate with base stations using radio frames that include multiple sub-frames, transmit information regarding allocation of a portion of the sub-frames of a respective radio frame for each of a plurality of the radio frames, and transmit and receive data using allocated sub-frames and not using unallocated sub-frames. In some embodiments, the UE may operate according to a sub-frame allocation based on its current power state. The UE may transmit information to the base station and receive the sub-frame allocation based on at least the information. In some embodiments, the UE may switch transmit duty cycles based on an occurrence of a condition at the UE. The UE may inform the network of the switch.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to radio link monitoring techniques. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may establish a radio link with a cellular base station according to a radio access technology. The base station may provide reference signals, control signals, and data signals to the wireless device via the radio link. The wireless device may perform radio link monitoring of the radio link using characteristics of decoding performance for one or more of the control signals and the data signals. Performing radio link monitoring of the radio link may include determining whether the radio link is in-sync or out-of-sync and determining whether radio link failure has occurred.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for wireless devices to improve wireless communication technology coexistence characteristics using narrow band use awareness in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may attach to a serving cell according to a first radio access technology. A frequency range in active use by the wireless device for communication according to the first radio access technology may be determined. The frequency range may include less bandwidth than the system bandwidth of the serving cell. An indication of the frequency range may be provided from a portion of the wireless device implementing the first radio access technology to a portion of the wireless device implementing a second radio access technology. It may be determined whether to modify operation of the wireless device with respect to the second radio access technology based at least in part on the indication of the frequency range.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for efficient idle mode wakeup for wireless devices supporting an enhanced coverage mode and a normal coverage mode in a wireless communication system. A wireless device may camp on a cellular base station in idle mode. The wireless device may monitor a control channel associated with the normal coverage mode during a paging occasion. The wireless device may also monitor a control channel associated with the enhanced coverage mode during the paging occasion if a paging indication is not successfully decoded on the control channel associated with the normal coverage mode.

Abstract: In a wireless communication system, a user equipment device (UE) may undertake a circuit-switched fallback (CSFB) process by using or more secondary radio frequency (RF) receive chains to search for candidate circuit-switched (CS) cells, in parallel with using a primary RF receive chain to wait for an extended service request (ESR) response. The UE may send, using a first RF receive chain, an ESR message on a packet-switched (PS) network in response to receiving a CS voice call page on the PS network. The UE may also start an ESR timer upon sending the ESR message, and monitor, using the first RF receive chain, for receipt of an ESR response on the PS network. While monitoring for receipt of the ESR response, the UE may use a second RF receive chain to acquire an initial CS network, and detect whether the ESR timer expires before the ESR response is received.

Abstract: Operating a UE device having a single radio configured to communicate using a first and second RAT. The UE may begin operating in a connected discontinuous reception (CDRX) mode of the first RAT, where the CDRX mode comprises an on duration timer and an inactivity timer. The method may determine that the single radio of the UE is being used for a second RAT during the CDRX mode. The UE may operate at least one of a CDRX on duration timer or an inactivity timer of the first RAT while the single radio of the UE is being used for the second RAT. While the single radio of the UE is being used for the second RAT, the at least one of the CDRX on duration timer or the inactivity timer may operate even though no communication or monitoring is performed on the first RAT.
