摘要: A marker is described which is utilized for marking surfaces which are fragile such as those of glass products just following molding procedures. A compact housing having a self-contained reservoir of marking fluid, a solenoid actuated nebulizing nozzle, and an air valve are employed with a self-contained circuit to nebulize a small quantity of marking fluid in a manner wherein the interval of expression of fluid from the nozzle is bracketed by a minimum interval of nebulizing air flow. As a result, only a short puff of nebulizing activity occurs which provides effective marking of the hot surface while avoiding any damage thereto.

摘要: Method and apparatus for sorting and deflecting a progression of liquid particles by selectively applying electrical charges of varying amplitude and subjecting the charged particles to the influence of an electrically conductive surface while the particles are subjected to an electric field such that sufficiently charged particles will be deflected laterally of the electrically conductive surface. This results in higher charged particles being deflected to a catching mechanism and the lower charged particles being directed onto a recording medium at locations selectively laterally displaced from their original trajectories.

摘要: An ink jet printer utilizes a substantially electrically conductive deflection electrode which extends generally parallel to at least one row of ink jet drop streams and has a d.c. electrical deflection potential impressed thereon to produce a static electrical deflection field through which drops in the drop streams pass. The deflection electrode is heated by passing a resistive heating current through the electrode and is held by a spring mounting arrangement to compensate for resulting thermal expansion of the electrode, thus maintaining the electrode in tension, such that it is held substantially straight.

摘要: A method for identifying dip-galvanized parts commences with marking a tag (e.g., metal) with identification indicia for a galvanizable part. The markings and the tag are resistant to molten zinc. A temporary film is applied over the identification indicia. The temporary film is resistant to pre-galvanizing treatment, but is removed (burned away) during dip galvanizing without obscuring the readability of the identification indicia. Finally, the metal tag is associated with the galvanizable part and the part galvanized in a molten zinc bath.

This method includes the steps of: (a) forming on said product or on a tag to be attached to said product a layer of coating containing an additive that is darkenable under the action of a CO.sub.2 laser beam to form product identification indicia; (b) providing a raster-scanning infrared laser beam emitting CO.sub.2 laser that raster-scans in the Y-axis; (c) effecting impingement of said laser beam from said laser onto said coating layer, wherein one or more of said laser beam or said coating layer moves in the X-axis for said laser beam to form said product identification indicia from said additive that is darkened by said laser beam; and (d) if said coating layer was applied to a tag, attaching said tag to said product. The zone can be an area on the metal product that has been coated with a layer of the coating or can be a metal tag that has been coated with a layer of the coating. Another aspect of the present invention is the laser marked identification tag disclosed herein.

摘要: A linear array of solenoid actuated marker valve assemblies is contained in a housing configured as a manifold which carries marker fluid as well as nebulizing air supplies and a solvent distributing valve for use in clearing the air passages. All valve assemblies are accessible from the front surface of the device for ease of maintenance and are assembled in a manner assuring uniform and consistent valve stem travel advantageously eliminating the need for valve stem travel adjustment. The control system utilized with the valve assemblies provides both for an enhanced current input rate to the windings of the solenoid driven components, as well as an efficient and effective turn-off clamping procedure. This form of actuation of the solenoids achieves dynamically efficient and rapid turn-off and turn-on to the extent that the size of dots formed by the assembly can be provided having a broader range of diameters and these diameters can be adjusted remotely by a simple impedance variation. The features of the invention permit the application of characters at substantially enhanced production line speeds.

摘要: Apparatus for forming multi-character messages on the surface of solid materials which employs an array of marker pins moved by a carriage in a manner defining an undulating locus of movement. This locus traces the matrix with which character fonts are defined by pixels formed by the marker pins as discrete indentations. The carriage and head containing the marker pin are pivotally driven by a cam to provide vertical movement and by a Geneva mechanism to provide horizontal movement. Pixel positions for the matrices are established by a timing disk and control over the pins is provided employing an interrupt approach. Each marking pin within the head assembly is capable of marking more than one complete character for a given transverse of the head between home and away limits.

摘要: Apparatus for forming multi-character messages on the surfaces of solid materials wherein an array of marker pins (88-94) are selectively pneumatically actuated from a corresponding array of solenoid actuated valves (102-104, 106). The marker pins are returned to their operational ready position by a select pneumatic input (96) which performs in conjunction with a pressure limiting valve (126). Continuous monitoring of marker pin performance is carried out by a transducer (166) operating in conjunction with a monitoring duct (168) and selectively located monitoring openings (168a-168g). The marker pins readily are accessed for maintenance in consequence of their positioning within a head structure (12) having access openings at one end (78) and which is retained in position by ball lock pins (64, 65).

摘要: A non-contacting electrostatic mark/sense length measurement gauge is used to place discrete areas of electrostatic charge at very accurately spaced intervals along a relatively moving material surface. Special construction of both the electrostatic marking and sensing transducers is employed. To compensate for expected unreliability of the mark/sense length gauge, a conventional highly reliable but less accurate contacting length gauge (such as a tachometer in rolling contact with the relatively moving material) is employed. The output from the electrostatic mark/sense length gauge and from the tachometer length gauge are combined by special electronic circuits to provide a length measurement of the passing material which is both highly accurate and reliable under all expected measurement conditions.
