摘要: An optical modulator, including: a substrate; an optical waveguide embedded in the substrate; a traveling wave electrode mounted on the substrate and having a traveling wave applied thereon so that a light wave is modulated by the traveling wave with an electro-optic effect. The traveling wave electrode includes a center electrode and ground electrodes; in which the optical waveguide has a plurality of interaction optical waveguides that form a Mach-Zehnder optical waveguide that modulates the light wave in a phase modulation manner when the traveling wave is applied to the traveling wave electrode, the interaction optical waveguides form a region where respective widths of the interaction optical waveguides are different from each other, and the center electrode and the ground electrodes are positioned such that interaction efficiencies between the high frequency electric signal and the light wave guided in the respective interaction optical waveguides are substantially equal to each other.

摘要: A communication system includes a printing unit, an image scanning unit, an accessing system connectable to a web page. The printing unit prints out the web page on a first recording medium. When the web page includes an input field and the data input in the input field is to be transmitted to a predetermined destination, the printing unit prints out an image having a fill-in area to be filled in by the user, and a destination area indicating the destination, on a second recording medium. The communication system includes a scan controller that controls the scanning unit to scan the second recording medium to capture an image thereof, a recognition system that recognizes contents written in the fill-in area and the destination area based on the scanned image, and a data transmitting system that transmits contents extracted from the fill-in area to the destination extracted from the destination area.

摘要: A gas releasing valve 50 is formed by a first valve body portion 51 and a second valve body portion 52. The end of the first valve body portion 51 and the end of the second valve body portion 52 both located at a released gas downstream side are joined to a gas releasing wall 41 and a gas releasing wall 42, respectively, with a corresponding one of a first downstream end joint portion 53 and a second downstream end joint portion 54. A flexible portion 58 is formed in a part of each one of the valve body portions 51, 52 in the vicinity of and on a released gas upstream side of the corresponding one of the downstream end joint portions 53, 54. A front portion of the first valve body portion 51 and a front portion of the second valve body portion 52 are joined to at least the gas releasing wall 41 and the gas releasing wall 42, respectively, with a first edge joint portion 55. The first edge joint portion 55 functions also as a wall joint portion 57, which joins at least the gas releasing walls 41, 42 to each other. A rear part of the first valve body portion 51 and a rear part of the second valve body portion 52 are joined to each other with a second edge joint portion 56, which extends toward the released gas upstream side. An auxiliary joint portion 61, which joins the valve body portions 51, 52 to each other, is arranged between the first edge joint portion 55 and the second edge joint portion 56 and in the vicinity of the second edge joint portion 56. The auxiliary joint portion 61 functions also as a flex-resistant portion 59, which extends toward the released gas upstream side and is less flexible than the flexible portion 58.

摘要: A head-protecting airbag apparatus includes an airbag having such a vertical dimension that the lower end region thereof is located on the beltline of a door of a vehicle upon deployment. The airbag includes a plurality of vertical cells disposed side by side along an anteroposterior direction and each inflatable into a rod-like shape extending generally vertically and a reinforcing portion located either on the inboard side or on the outboard side of at least two adjoining vertical cells out of the vertical cells at the lower end region of the airbag. The reinforcing portion is in gas communication with the vertical cells and inflatable into a horizontal rod-like shape (extending across the adjoining vertical cells).

摘要: A side airbag apparatus includes an inflator and an airbag. The airbag that is deployed and inflated in a space between a body side portion of a vehicle and an occupant seated on a front seat in a passenger compartment by the pressure of gas injected from the inflator. The apparatus also includes a pair of hook devices and tethers. The hook devices are located at the rear end in the airbag. Each tether extends in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle and has an end hooked to one of the hook devices and an end fixed to the front inner end of the airbag. The tethers suppress the expansion of the airbag in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle, thereby promoting the expansion of the airbag in the lateral direction of the vehicle. Further, the apparatus includes an occupant size detector for detecting the size of the occupant. When the size of the occupant detected by the occupant size detector is equal to or smaller than a reference size that is determined in advance, the hook devices release the tethers.

摘要: A side airbag apparatus includes an inflator assembly and an airbag. The airbag includes an upper chamber and a lower chamber, which communicate with each other via a communication portion. In the side airbag apparatus, gas is discharged from the inflator assembly in response to an impact from the side of a vehicle. The gas causes the lower chamber to be inflated and deployed beside the occupant with the internal pressure higher than that of the upper chamber. The side airbag apparatus further includes an auxiliary inflation section, which is part of the airbag and is inflated by gas around the communication portion. In the inflation process of the airbag, when the auxiliary inflation section starts inflating, the flow passage area of the communication portion is reduced, thereby suppressing the flow of gas in the communication portion.

摘要: A pedestrian airbag system is mounted to a rear portion of a vehicle's sheet metal hood panel. An airbag is inflated to cover an area from the rear portion of the hood panel to a front side of a front pillar by being supplied with inflation gas; a case accommodates the airbag, and an airbag cover formed of synthetic resin covers the upper side of the folded airbag to allow projection of the airbag when inflated. The air bag cover is disposed at the hood panel's rear portion so the airbag cover's upper surface is continuous with the upper surface of the hood panel, elongated in the width direction of the hood panel, and mounted to the hood panel to be capable of moving in the width direction of the hood panel. Deterioration of the airbag cover's appearance due to thermal expansion can be prevented.
