Abstract: A proppant includes a particle present in an amount of from 90 to 99.5 percent by weight and a polymeric coating disposed about the particle and present in an amount of from 0.5 to 10 percent by weight, based on the total weight of the proppant. The polymeric coating is formed from a curable composition comprising an isocyanate, an acrylate, and a polyol. A method of forming the proppant includes the steps of combining the isocyanate, the acrylate, and the polyol to form the curable composition, coating the particle with the curable composition, and curing the curable composition to form the polymeric coating.

Abstract: A proppant comprises a particle and a polyoxazolidone isocyanurate coating disposed about the particle. The polyoxazolidone isocyanurate coating comprises the reaction product of a glycidyl epoxy resin and an isocyanate in the presence of a catalyst. A method of forming the proppant comprises the steps of providing the particle, providing the glycidyl epoxy resin, providing the isocyanate, and providing the catalyst. The method also includes the steps of combining the glycidyl epoxy resin and the isocyanate in the presence of the catalyst to react and form the polyoxazolidone isocyanurate coating and coating the particle with the polyoxazolidone isocyanurate coating to form the proppant.

Abstract: This disclosure provides a pigmented primer composition for forming an n-acyl urea coating on a substrate. The pigmented primer composition includes a polycarbodiimide-polyurethane hybrid. The pigmented primer composition also includes an acid functional polymer and an organic solvent, and includes less than or equal to 10 weight percent of water based on a total weight of the pigmented primer composition. The pigmented primer composition also includes a pigment, an inorganic filler, and less than about 100 parts by weight of toluene diisocyanate per one million parts by weight of the pigmented primer composition. The n-acyl urea coating exhibits corrosion resistance of 2 to 10 as determined using ASTM B117 and ASTM D-1654-08 on a substrate that is unpolished cold rolled steel, aluminum, or galvanized steel.

Abstract: A method of producing a polycarbodiimide polymer comprises heating a precursor compound at a desired temperature. The method further comprises combining the precursor compound, a diisocyanate compound, and a carbodiimidization catalyst to form a reaction mixture. Finally, the method comprises heating the reaction mixture for a first period of time at a first temperature, thereby reacting the precursor compound and the diisocyanate compound in the presence of the carbodiimidization catalyst to produce the polycarbodiimide polymer.

Abstract: A method of producing a phospholene oxide is disclosed. A dihalohydrocarbylphosphine, 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene, and a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent are combined to form an adduct via an addition reaction in a homogenous system wherein the ratio of the 2-methyl-1,3-butadiene to the dihalohydrocarbylphosphine is from 1.0 to 2.0 and wherein the solvent is present in an amount of greater than 200 mL per mole of dihalohydrocarbylphosphine. The adduct is combined with alcohol and a carbonate or with a solution of metal hydroxide and water to form the phospholene oxide.
