    摘要: An architecture and methods for extending the depth of a WLAN to a four-level hierarchal access point structure including wireless access points. The wireless access points in the WLAN can be networked by scanning for a network, collecting one or more packets that identify the network from one or more access points, each packet including an address identifying an ancestry of the access points to an ancestral wired access point; and applying an access point selection algorithm to configure a parent access point. The architecture includes a scanning object configured to issue a scan request to a network interface and collect access point data; a selection object configured to filter and sort the collected access point data; an authentication state machine configured to perform authentication and validate; and an association state machine configured to compose a packet including hierarchical data indicative of access point ancestry to a conventional access point.

In the case of a failure, prescriptive guidance is provided and/or the framework possibly automatically fixes the problem. The framework includes a wireless diagnostics module that interacts with the operating system's diagnostics framework, helper classes, and wireless components to collect and log wireless diagnostic events and notifications, and issues queries and requests for active diagnostics. The helper classes perform diagnosis and troubleshooting fore their expertise areas based on the information provided by the wireless diagnostics module. The wireless diagnostics module includes an application program interface for communicating with helper classes, an event listener module that provides an event tracing application program interface to in-process modules, an active diagnostics module that issue active packet test requests to a media specific module, and query modules that issue information query requests to media specific modules.

    摘要: A computing device configurable as a wireless network access point that can be controlled from multiple applications. The computing device provides an interface through which applications may input commands to change the state of the access point. The interface responds to these commands and other events, such as association or disassociation of a wireless client, in a manner that does not disrupt the applications or devices using the access point. To determine an appropriate response to any event, the interface may maintain state information, including a count of the number of applications and/or wireless devices that have taken action indicating an operating state of the wireless access point.

During operation a client device will determine whether or not an advertisement opportunity duration is known, unknown, or variable.     摘要: A computing device with a software defined radio. The software defined radio has an architecture with separate components to provide control functions and data processing functions. The control components configure the data processing components so that the software defined radio provides desired operating characteristics. To facilitate programming the software defined radio to communicate according to one or more wireless technologies, the computing device may include a library of wireless technology specifications. By accessing a technology specification in the library, the control components can determine an appropriate configuration of the data processing components for a selected wireless technology. The data processing components may be hardware or software and, if hardware and software components are available to perform a data processing function, the control components may select between the hardware and software components depending on throughput, processor loading or other criteria.
