Abstract: A filtration system comprises a housing and a shell housing removably coupled to the housing. A valve comprise a valve housing and a plunger. The plunger comprises a seal member structured to seal an opening in the valve housing. The plunger is axially movable between a closed position, in which the seal member seals the opening, and an open position, in which the seal member does not seal the opening, thereby permitting fluid to flow through the valve housing. A filter element comprises filter media and an endcap. The endcap comprises an alignment tab configured to rotationally secure the filter element with respect to the shell housing when the shell housing is received in the housing. The endcap comprise a valve interaction projection structured to transfer rotation of the filter element and the shell housing to the plunger during installation of the filter element.

Abstract: A filter apparatus is described that has a torque limiting device, which may be a clutch mechanism, and which provides a protective function for a filter, so as to protect a filter from being over tightened and to thereby prevent damage to filter components. The clutch mechanism can also eliminate or reduce the need for torque measurement of certain filter components. The clutch mechanism can be located on one of the fluid filter, a filter head which engages the fluid filter, or a combination of both the fluid filter and the filter head.

Abstract: A no filter no filter no nm attachment is disclosed. A shell defines a fluid passage from an upstream fluid aperture at a first end for fluid receiving communication with a filtration cartridge to a downstream fluid aperture at a corresponding second end sized and shaped for coupling to a fluid pump inlet. The shell further defines a pin aperture at the first end sized to receive a pin from the filtration cartridge. A divider segments the fluid passage into an upstream portion that comprises the upstream fluid aperture and the pin aperture and a downstream portion that comprises the downstream fluid aperture. The divider also defines an internal aperture that allows fluid communication between the upstream portion and the downstream portion. A ball is disposed in the upstream portion in fluid flow receiving communication with the upstream fluid aperture, and is sized to have a greater diameter than the internal aperture.

Abstract: A spin-on fluid filter with improved attachment and sealing with the filter head. The filter has a gasket positioned at the end of threads used to connect the filter to a filter head. The described design protects the gasket from excessive engine heat, cat or tear damage during installation, and the roll out effect of installation torque. In addition, the described attachment provides gasket protection and uniform compression of the gasket. The gasket can be any type that provides a seal which keeps external threads on the filter and the filter head dry.

Abstract: A filter assembly includes a housing defining unfiltered and filtered cavities, a coolant inlet, and a coolant outlet. The filter assembly further includes a stop valve movable between a stop valve closed position and a stop valve open position and an anti-drain valve movable between an anti-drain valve closed position and an anti-drain valve open position. The coolant inlet is in fluid communication with the unfiltered cavity when the stop valve body is in the stop valve open position. The coolant outlet is in fluid communication with the filtered cavity when the anti-drain valve body is in the anti-drain valve open position. A filter cartridge includes a bottom endplate having a rib with a rib end face engaging with the stop valve to move the stop valve body from the stop valve closed position to the stop valve open position when the filter cartridge is positioned within the housing.

Abstract: A no filter no run bidirectional pin element is disclosed. A shell housing is removably coupled to a filtration housing, a removable no filter no run attachment, and a filter element. The filter element comprises a filtration media and a bidirectional pin element. The bidirectional pin element comprises a center tube formed as a single piece with a bidirectional pin. The installation of the filter element and the shell housing into the filtration system results in the bidirectional pin entering a pin aperture of the removable no filter no run attachment and the bidirectional pin preventing the operative engagement of a blocking element with a divider inside the no filter no run attachment.

Abstract: Quick connect mechanisms between a fluid filter and a head that permits quick connection/disconnection between the two. The mechanisms clamp the filter shell in place with a plurality of radially displaceable locking elements. When the filter is inserted into the head, an element that controls the radial displacement of the locking element is rotated to radially displace the locking elements and lock the shell in place. External sealing is achieved by the means of suitable sealing elements, for example a compression face seal and/or a radial O-ring seal. The clamping force comes from the rotation of the control element to a lock position which displaces the locking elements in a radial direction to a lock position. When the control element is rotated to an unlock position, the locking elements are free to move or are actuated to an unlock position, allowing the filter to be removed.
