    摘要: The method and system for providing a perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head are described. The method and system include providing a metal underlayer and a PMR pole on the metal underlayer. The metal underlayer is amorphous. The PMR pole has a bottom and a top wider than the bottom. The PMR pole includes at least a first ferromagnetic layer, a second ferromagnetic layer, and a third ferromagnetic layer. The first ferromagnetic layer is antiferromagnetically coupled with the second ferromagnetic layer. The second ferromagnetic layer is antiferromagnetically coupled with the third ferromagnetic layer.

In one design, the resistor layer is a layer with a plurality of resistors embedded in an insulator layer which is sandwiched between the electrodes. In the other design, a combination of a heater layer with a plurality of heaters and a layer of phase change material constitutes the resistor sandwiched a pair of electrodes. The resistor or heater can be easily made in nano-size.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a method of characterizing a mechanism of action of an agent (e.g., a chemotherapeutic agent, a genotoxic agent). The method comprises contacting a plurality of populations of cells with an agent to be assessed, wherein each population of cells have one gene of interest targeted by a small hairpin RNA (shRNA) and wherein said gene of interest regulates cell death and a plurality of genes that regulate cell death are targeted in the plurality of populations of cells. A responsiveness of each population of cells to the agent is determined, thereby obtaining an shRNA signature of the agent, so as to identify one or more genes that mediate a response to the agent, thereby characterizing the mechanism of action of the agent. The invention is also directed an article of manufacture for characterizing a mechanism of action of a chemotherapeutic or genotoxic agent.

    摘要: A method and system for fabricating magnetic transducer are described.The method and system include providing a main pole having a bottom, a top wider than the bottom, and a top bevel. A nonmagnetic gap covering the main pole is provided. A portion of the nonmagnetic gap resides on the top of the main pole. A first seed layer is provided. At least a portion of the first seed layer covers the portion of the nonmagnetic gap on top of the main pole. A portion of the nonmagnetic gap on the magnetic recording transducer is removed after the first seed layer is provided. A second seed layer is provided after the portion of the nonmagnetic gap is removed. The second seed layer covers at least the portion of the first seed layer. A wrap-around shield layer is provided on the second seed layer.

    摘要: In one aspect, a laminated structure including a first plurality of layers containing primarily-iron FeCoN interleaved with a second plurality of layers containing primarily iron FeNi is disclosed. The structure has an easy axis of magnetization and a hard axis of magnetization, has a magnetic saturation of at least about twenty-three-thousand Gauss, and has a magnetic coercivity measured substantially along its hard axis of magnetization that is less than two Oersted.
