An image forming apparatus is provided. The image forming apparatus includes a search unit which broadcasts a search message for searching for a connectable host device, a communication interface unit which receives a response message for notifying that a print job is executable from host devices in response to the search message, a user interface unit which displays host devices corresponding to the received response message and receives a selection from a user regarding a host device to be connected from among the displayed host devices, and a controller which controls the communication interface unit to transmit a connection message for requesting connection with the image forming apparatus to the selected host device.

An apparatus to detect a sync signal, a VSB receiver using the same, and a method thereof. The apparatus includes a plurality of partial correlators to calculate a first partial correlation value between a sub sequence of a training sequence and an “I” signal of a received signal and a second partial correlation value between the sub sequence of the training sequence and a “Q” signal of the received signal, a plurality of squarers to square the first and second partial correlation values for each sub sequence, respectively, a plurality of adders to add the partial correlation values and to provide a correlation signal, a maximum value detection unit to detect a maximum one of the added partial correlation values, and a position detection unit to detect a position of the detected maximum value as the sync signal of the received signal.

A digital broadcasting transmission/reception system having an improved receiving performance and a signal processing method thereof. The transmission system includes a FEC encoder encoding an incoming signal according to a certain FEC scheme, a sync insertion unit inserting a sync into the encoded signal, a hidden pilot insertion unit inserting a hidden pilot into the sync-inserted signal, a pilot insertion unit inserting a pilot tone into the hidden-pilot-inserted signal, a pulse shaping filter pulse-shaping the pilot-tone-inserted signal with a certain roll-off factor, and a RF unit transmitting the pulse-shaped signal through a transmission channel band. Performances of equalization and synchronization acquirement can be enhanced in multipath conditions by utilizing the transmission system containing the hidden pilot.
Abstract:
A carrier and symbol timing recovery apparatus usable in a VSB (Vestigial Side Band) receiver, and a method thereof. For a carrier and symbol timing recovery, error information is detected using a pilot signal, an upper sideband and a lower sideband of a received signal. Each of the detected error information is multiplied by a predetermined weight, respectively, and the results of the respective multiplications are added/combined. Therefore, even though the pilot signal may be corrupted, the carrier recovery can nevertheless be accurately performed. Additionally, even though the upper sideband of a received VSB-modulated signal may be corrupted, the lower sideband can be utilized to perform the symbol timing recovery. As a result, performance of a receiving system can be improved even under unfavorable channel characteristics. Moreover, since the carrier recovery and the symbol timing recovery are executed through a single apparatus, it becomes possible to simplify a hardware implementation thereof.

A symbol timing recovery apparatus usable with a VSB receiver, includes a first correlator to calculate a first correlation value between an I channel receiving signal and a timing recovery reference signal, a second correlator to calculate a second correlation value between a Q channel receiving signal having a phase difference of 90° with respect to the I channel receiving signal and the reference signal, a calculating member to calculate a non-coherent combining value based on the first correlation value output from the first correlator and the second correlation value output from the second correlator, an early-late subtractor to calculate a difference value between the non-coherent combing value of a previous sample and the non-coherent combing value of a subsequent sample in samples of the I and Q channel receiving signals, and to detect a symbol timing offset based on the calculated difference signal, and a symbol timing controller to control symbol timing based on the detected symbol timing offset. Accordingly, by using the non-coherent combining value of the first and second correlation values, it is possible to perform the symbol timing recovery regardless of carrier recovery error, thereby minimizing symbol timing jitter.

The digital broadcasting transmission/reception systems include a FEC encoder encoding an incoming signal according to a FEC scheme, a sync signal insertion unit inserting into the encoded signal a segment sync signal including modified segment syncs, a pilot insertion unit inserting a pilot signal into the sync-inserted signal, a pulse shaping filter pulse-shaping the pilot-inserted signal with a roll-off factor, and a RF unit transmitting the pulse-shaped signal through a transmission channel band. The modified segment sync includes a predetermined number of sync signals, and an average of correlation values with respect to the predetermined number of the sync signals has an auto-correlation property. The transmission scheme utilizing the modified segment syncs promotes compatibility with the conventional reception system, minimizes hardware complexity, and enhances synchronization acquisition and equalization performance.

A printing system includes a host which includes a storage having one or more folders, establishes one of the folders as a target folder, and generates path information of the target folder, and an image forming apparatus to acquire a list of image files stored in the target folder based on the path information, to request thumbnail images corresponding to the image files on the list from the host, and to display the thumbnail images on a predetermined display unit by downloading the thumbnail images from the host. The host converts the image files stored in the target folder into the thumbnail images and transmits the thumbnail images to the image forming apparatus, and the image forming apparatus selects at least one among the thumbnail images and prints an image file corresponding to the selected thumbnail image by downloading the image file from the host.
