Liquid formulations having anti-adherent properties are disclosed herein. The liquid anti-adherent formulation described herein acts to prevent the adherence of menses and/or fecal material to the skin in the labial and perianal regions during and after menstruation or defecation, respectively. The liquid anti-adherent formulation contains a carrier, a polymer selected from an anionic polymer, nonionic polymer, and combinations thereof. Anti-adherent formulation was found to be effective if a menses leave-on percentage as defined within the Menses Leave-On Percentage Test method described herein of less than 7.2% after two insults.

Fibrous articles are disclosed containing an additive composition. The additive composition, for instance, may include a water-soluble film forming component and water-soluble modifying components that is deposited at least at the surface of a fibrous web. In some aspects, the additive composition includes polymers that demonstrate a certain LCST and melting temperature. In another aspect, the additive composition is applied to the fibrous web during the heated drying phase, such as with a Yankee dryer. The fibrous web with additive composition is then creped. The additive composition may improve the perceived softness of the web without substantially affecting the absorbency of the web in an adverse manner.

A microlayer polymer film comprising a plurality of coextruded microlayers including a non-degradable layer comprising a non-water degradable, melt-extrudable polymer and degradable layer comprising a water degradable, melt-extrudable polymer. The microlayer polymer film degrades when soaked in water and is suitable as a covering material for disposal items such as flushable diapers. The microlayer polymer film is also breathable and is a barrier to small amounts of water. A suitable non-water degradable, melt-extrudable polymer is linear low density polyethylene filled with a particulate filler. A suitable water degradable, melt-extrudable polymer is polyethylene oxide.

An article includes a distinctive refastenable adhesive taping system. The article comprises an outer cover which has waistband sections positioned at opposite ends thereof and has an intermediate section which interconnects the waistband sections. The outer cover includes a securing zone which is located at a first of the waistband sections and which provides a landing surface appointed for receiving adhesion of one or more adhesive tabs thereon. The securing zone has a selected peak tensile strength and a selected rigidity value. An adhesive tab is located at at least one lateral side edge of a second of the waistband sections for securing the waistband sections around a wearer. The tab includes a backing layer and an adhesive layer, and, when adhered to the landing surface, has a 180.degree. peel adhesion value which is less than the peak strength of the securing zone. The backing layer has a rigidity value selected to provide a rigidity ratio of not more than about 10:1, where the rigidity ratio is determined by dividing the backing layer rigidity value by the securing zone rigidity value. The securing zone and adhesive tab thereby provide an improved refastenable taping system.

The present invention is directed to biodegradable films and biodegradable precursor films having enhanced breathability and ductility. The films contain a biodegradable polymer and a water soluble polymer. The biodegradable polymer is preferably polycaprolactone, and the water soluble polymer is preferably polyethylene oxide. The precursor film of the present invention preferably has a water vapor transmission rate of at least 500 g/24 hrs/m2. The biodegradable film of the present invention preferably has a water vapor transmission rate of at least 2500 g/24 hrs/m2.

Breathable, flushable, porous films and articles made therewith and a process for making these films. The present invention is directed to composites comprising a polymer that is water-soluble or water-degradable and a filler. The films are made by extruding the composite materials into a precursor film and, preferably, stretching the precursor film to achieve the desired breathability and water-dispersibility of the finished film. In one embodiment, the composition of the invention comprises a polymer of ethylene oxide and a filler such as calcium carbonate.
