    摘要: A receiver for use in the port or portable units in a TDM/TDMA digital radio communications system is disclosed which incorporates an equalizer (107) to compensate for channel distortion due to multipath delay spread. Each received burst of information is oversampled at a multiple of the symbol rate and stored in a buffer memory (105). A joint estimator (106) processes the stored burst by operating on a known training sequence of bits within the burst to determine burst timing (where the burst actually begins) and the symbol timing (the optimum sample sample per oversampled symbol to be used for detection purposes). The estimator also determines whether the stored burst should be processed in a time-forward or time-reversed order. The joint estimator includes plural training equalizers (201), each of which is associated with an assumed burst location and each of which attempts to converge on the known training sequence as the stored sequence is circulated plural times through the equalizers in both the time-forward and time-reversed order. Burst and symbol timing and the optimum processing order are determined from the location of the training equalizer which converges with the minimum mean-square error. The determined burst and symbol timing, and the selected processing order, are passed to the buffer storage for read-out, in that selected order, of the stored burst information in that order to the input of the main receiver equalizer (107). That main equalizer is initially set with the equalizer parameters determined by the training equalizer yielding the minimum mean-square error. The equalizers can either be conventional fractionally-spaced decision feedback equalizers or can be phase equalizers, which operate on the received phase angle.

The interference cancellation matrix, also referred to as a matched filter, may enable a composite signal (Y) to be represented as a plurality of subsidiary signals (yi), each of which is transmitted by the node B for reception at a corresponding ith UE station. Each of the subsidiary signals yi may be generated based on a corresponding one of a plurality of data stream signals (xi). The processor may enable generation of a precoding matrix (WT) based on the interference cancellation matrix. A transmitter within the node B may enable generation of a plurality of signals based on the preceding matrix. The signals may be transmitted via a wireless communication medium.

    摘要: A spatial diversity receiver and method for determining a multichannel combined symbol timing marker that identifies an energy concentration for a combination of channel delay spreads in order to reduce the complexity of equalization. The receiver includes two or more receiver chains having spatially diverse antennas; a multichannel combined timer; and a multichannel combined equalizer for receiving wireless signals through two or more signal channels. The multichannel combined timer combines energies corresponding to the channel impulse response coefficients for all the channels for determining a series of multichannel combined metrics having associated index cursors, and then determines the multichannel combined symbol timing marker from the index cursor for the largest of the metrics. The symbol timing marker synchronizes the received symbols issued to the equalizer jointly to the energy concentration for the delay spreads combined for all the channels.

    摘要: A transmission system for backhauling CDMA signals from remote antennas to the centralized base station of a wireless communication system includes a laser transmitter and an optical receiver coupled to an optical fiber. Wireless signals are backhauled to the central base station without degrading signal quality, and with minimal signal processing performed at the remote antenna site. The RF drive current driving the laser transmitter is kept above a predetermined level to prevent noise caused by optical feedback into the laser transmitter caused by Rayleigh backscatter in the optical fiber. A method of testing the optical link is presented which avoids the expense of using a real CDMA system to test each link. The testing method enables the dynamic range of inexpensive, unisolated, uncooled lasers in the optical link to be increased so the optical link can cost-effectively backhaul the CDMA signals.

    摘要: Average local traffic load in a simulcast radio system is estimated to achieve efficient resource sharing and dynamic reconfiguration of the simulcast areas. A method for estimating the average local traffic load uses relative power measurements at each radio port (or distributed antenna element). The estimating method is applicable to both code-division multiple access (CDMA) and time-division multiple access (TDMA) systems. The method provides accurate estimates of the actual radio port traffic over various system conditions, while requiring only an approximate knowledge of the radio propagation environment.

The bandwidth and/or the feedback period may be assigned based on the channel state information or as a function of a feedback rate.

    摘要: A method and system for beamforming signal transmission under a per-antenna power constraint is presented. In one aspect, a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transmitting station may compute a per-antenna power gain factor for each of a plurality of transmit chain signals. The transmit chain signals may be concurrently transmitted by a plurality of transmitting antennas at the MIMO transmitting station. The plurality of transmit chain signals may correspond to beamforming signals, which are generated by performing spatial mapping on a plurality of space-time signals. The plurality of power gain factors may be computed based on a per-antenna power constraint. Alternatively, the plurality of power gain factors may be computed based on joint per-antenna power and total-power constraints. Each of the transmit chain signals may be amplified or attenuated based on the corresponding antenna gain factor. The amplified or attenuated signal is then transmitted by the corresponding transmitting antenna.
