    Abstract: An apparatus comprises a radio frequency (RF) antenna circuit; an antenna aperture tuning circuit; an antenna impedance measurement circuit; and a processor circuit electrically coupled to the tunable antenna aperture circuit and the impedance measurement circuit. The processor circuit is configured to: set the antenna aperture tuning circuit to an antenna aperture tuning state according to one or more parameters of an RF communication network; initiate an antenna impedance measurement; and change the antenna aperture tuning state to an antenna aperture tuning state indicated by the antenna impedance.

    Abstract: A mobile device for determining a handling condition of the mobile device and a method of use thereof. One embodiment of the mobile device includes: at least one left capacitive proximity sensor disposed on a left side of the mobile device and operable to detect a hold condition, at least one right capacitive proximity sensor disposed on a right side of the mobile device and operable to detect a hold condition, an accelerometer disposed in the mobile device and operable to detect an orientation of the mobile device, an ambient light proximity sensor disposed in the mobile device and operable to detect a proximity of a user's head, and a processor operable to execute an application configured to gain access to and employ the hold condition, the orientation, and the proximity of the user's head to determine a handling condition.

    Abstract: A terminal device is configured to perform a method for identifying a target device in a local area network (LAN) comprising a plurality of potential target devices. The method includes communicating in an omni-directional format to obtain discovered devices within the area, communicating in a narrow beam format in a direction of the target device; identifying a first list of a first plurality of devices including the target device; eliminating a device from the first list of devices to create a second list of devices; calculating a distance between the terminal device and each device in the second list of devices; determining a precise distance between the terminal device and the target device using a precise distance measurement method; determine which device of the second list of devices has a distance that compares favorably to the precisely determined distance; and identifying the device ID.

    Abstract: An embodiment wireless communication device includes a circuit board and a cover having a back surface covering a portion of a first surface of the circuit board and an opening in the back surface. A top antenna is disposed within the cover and is electrically connected to the circuit board at a first feed point on a first edge of the circuit board. A secondary antenna disposed within the cover has a first antenna portion connected to the circuit board at a second feed point, and a second antenna portion of the second antenna extends laterally from a second edge of the circuit board over the first surface of the circuit board and between the back surface of the cover and the first surface of the circuit board such that at least a portion of the second antenna portion is exposed through the opening in the back surface.

    Abstract: Methods, apparatus and systems are provided including a load-adaptive antenna for mobile communication devices. One aspect provides a method of using an antenna within a handheld wireless communication device. The method includes monitoring antenna performance using information received from a sensor within the device. When antenna performance drops below a programmable threshold, such as due to proximity or contact with a user, a signal from a processor is used to actuate a circuit component to change a location of a high impedance portion of the antenna to reduce the effects of the proximity or contact with the user, in various embodiments.
