Abstract: A fault detection system for a wind turbine includes a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The DFIG includes a wye-ring configured for at least three electrical phases. The fault detection system includes a data acquisition system including at least three sensors. Each sensor of said at least three sensors is configured to electrically couple with and measure a respective voltage of each phase of the at least three electrical phases of the wye-ring. The fault detection system further includes an alert system coupled to said data acquisition system. The alert system is configured to apply a Fourier transform to the respective measured voltages of each phase of the at least three electrical phases of the wye-ring. The alert system is further configured to provide an indication of a condition of the wye-ring based upon the transformed measured voltages.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to systems and methods for electrical signature analysis of electrical rotating machines. In one embodiment of the disclosure, a method includes ascertaining initial information associated with an electrical rotating machine, assigning a plurality of operational conditions associated with the machine to a plurality of buckets, and recording the electrical data to obtain a pre-defined number of sets of learning data. The method further includes determining, based at least on the initial information and the learning data, that the machine is in a healthy condition, obtaining, based on the learning data, baseline data associated with at the at least one bucket, and generating, based on the baseline data, a threshold associated with the bucket and at least one fault frequency associated with the machine. The method further includes generating, based on the threshold and the baseline data, alarms concerning a state of the electrical rotating machine.

Abstract: A method for estimating a speed of an induction motor includes applying a voltage to the induction motor and measuring a current of the induction motor. A current fast fourier transform (FFT) of the current is then determined and a slip of the induction motor is calculated based on the current FFT. A speed of the induction motor is then estimated based on the slip of the induction motor.

Abstract: A method for controlling operation of an electric power generation system includes receiving power generator data corresponding to the electric power generation system. The method further includes receiving, using a digital prime mover unit, a set-point parameter corresponding to a prime mover unit and generating one or more prime mover parameter estimates corresponding to the plurality of prime mover parameters. Further, the method includes receiving, using a digital generator unit, one or more prime mover parameter estimates and generating one or more generator parameter estimates corresponding to the plurality of generator parameters. The digital prime mover unit and the digital generator unit are real-time operational models of the prime mover unit and the generator unit. The method also includes controlling the operation of the electric power generation system based on at least one or more of the power generator data, the prime mover parameter estimates, and the generator parameter estimates.

Abstract: A method of controlling an operation of a mechanical transmission system includes receiving motor-load data corresponding to the mechanical transmission system. The method further includes receiving, by a digital motor unit, one or more motor input parameters and generating motor parameter estimates of one or more of the plurality of motor parameters. The method also includes receiving, by a digital load unit, one or more motor parameter estimates from the digital motor unit and generating load parameter estimates corresponding to one or more load parameters. The digital motor unit and the digital load unit is a real-time operational model of the motor unit and the load unit respectively. The method also includes controlling the operation of the mechanical transmission system based on one or more of the motor-load data, motor parameter estimates and load parameter estimates.
