Disclosed herein are adhesives comprising a copolymer comprising at least 80 wt % of units derived from propylene and from about 1 to about 20 wt % of units derived from at least one C6 to C10 alpha-olefin. The copolymer has a molecular weight of less than 100,000 and a heat of fusion between about 10 and about 70 J/g. An adhesive containing the copolymer preferably exhibits at least 50% fiber tear at −18° C. and at least 50% fiber tear at +25° C. using Inland paper board as a substrate; a viscosity of less than 50,000 mPa sec at 190° C., a set time of less than 4 seconds and a toughness of at least 3.4 megajoule/m3.

Thermoplastic polyolefins (TPOs) and/or thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) are blended with low molecular weight propylene-dominated copolymers to provide polymeric compositions with an improved balance between processability and toughness. The compositions have improved processability by facilitating the ease with which a TPO or TPV, usually difficult to melt process, can be processed at high line speeds, which in turn improves the formation of the composition into articles.

A low viscosity poly(apha-olefin) (PAO) is produced by contacting one or more C3 to C24 alpha-olefins with an unbridged, substituted bis cyclopentadienyl transition metal compound, a non-coordinating anion activator, and an alkyl-aluminum compound. The molar ratio of transition metal compound to activator is 10:1 to 0.1:1, and the molar ratio of alkyl aluminum compound to transition metal compound is 1:4 to 4000:1. The transition metal compound has either (a) at least one non-isoolefin substitution on both cyclopentadienyl rings, or (b) at least two substitutions on at least one cyclopentadienyl ring. The PAO is comprised of at least 50 mole % of C3 to C24 alpha-olefins and has a kinematic viscosity at 100° C. of 20 cSt or less.

The present invention describes polymer comprising one or more C3 to C40 olefins and having a Mw of 100,000 or less and a Dot T-Peel of 1 Newton or more. The polymer may have a branching index (g′) of 0.95 or less measured at the Mz of the polymer, and a heat of fusion of 1 to 70 J/g. Also described are polymers of homopolypropylene or a copolymer of propylene and up to 5 mole % ethylene having: an isotactic run length of 1 to 30 as determined by Carbon 13 NMR and a percent of r dyad of greater than 20%, preferably from 20 to 70% as determined by Carbon 13 NMR. Also described are methods of making these and other polymers.

An in-reactor polymer blend comprises (a) a propylene-containing first polymer; and (b) an ethylene-containing second polymer such that the polymer blend comprises between about 50 wt % and about 80 wt % units derived from ethylene and between about 50 wt % and about 20 wt % units derived from propylene. The blend is substantially free of dienes and the content of ethylene in the second polymer in the form of ethylene-ethylene-ethylene triads is at least 40%. The second polymer contains at least 0.1 branch having 8 or more carbon atoms per 10,000 carbons. In addition, the blend has a strain hardening index of at least 1.8, a shear thinning slope in the plot of log(dynamic viscosity) versus log(frequency) of less than −0.2 and exhibits at least two peaks when subjected to Differential Scanning Calorimetry (first melt) corresponding to a first melting point of at least 150° C. and a second melting point of at least 40° C. such that the difference between the first and second melting temperatures is at least 20° C.

This invention relates to a molded article comprising an in-reactor polymer blend comprising: (a) a first propylene polymer comprising 90 to 100 wt % propylene and from 0 to less than 10 wt % comonomer, said first propylene component having a Tm of 135° C. or more; and (b) a second propylene polymer comprising from 30 to 90 wt % propylene and 70 to 10 wt % comonomer, said second propylene polymer having an Mw of 30,000 g/mol or more, and said second propylene-containing polymer having a crystallinity different by at least 5% from the first polymer, wherein the polymer blend has: (a) a Tm of at least 135° C., (b) a melt flow rate of at least 70 dg/min, (c) a tensile strength of at least 8 MPa, (d) an elongation at break of at least 200%, (e) a tensile strength at break of 10 MPa or more, and (f) a GME 60280 scratch resistance of less than 1.2 DL at a scratching load of 5 Newtons.
