Abstract:
A torque bar manufactured by an additive manufacturing process is provided. The torque bar may include a torque bar body made of more than one metallic material. The torque bar may also include a geometry that comprises one or more voids and one or more webs, as well as a varied geometry in the direction of a longitudinal axis. The torque bars can exhibit characteristics, such as vibration damping, tuned stiffness, and tuned bending resistance in order to enhance dynamic stability.
Abstract:
Methods for estimating the cooling time of a brake assembly are disclosed. Methods are provided comprising receiving, by the processor, a first temperature of a brake assembly at a first time, receiving, by the processor, a second temperature of a brake assembly at a second time, wherein the second time occurs a fixed period after the first time, determining, by the processor, a temperature decay coefficient (“α”) of the brake assembly based on the first temperature and the second temperature and calculating, by the processor, an estimated total time to cool the brake assembly to a predetermined temperature based on the first temperature, the predetermined temperature and α.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a torque tube comprising a barrel portion disposed between a flange and a back leg, the flange extending radially inward towards an axis of rotation and the back leg extending radially outward from the barrel portion. The torque tube further comprises a channel defined by a channel wall and disposed in at least one of the barrel portion and the flange, the channel being configured to receive a sacrificial member.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for aircraft wheels and brakes systems for use in, for example, an aircraft. In this regard, a damper for an axle may comprise a solid body defined by a cylindrical outside diameter (OD) surface and an elliptical inner surface configured to be inserted into a bore of the axle, the elliptical inner surface defining a void. The damper may comprise a varying thickness between the OD surface and the elliptical inner surface, the varying thickness including a minimum thickness along a major axis of the inner surface and a maximum thickness along a minor axis of the inner surface. The varying thickness may help to decouple a bending mode along the minor axis from the bending mode along the major axis.
Abstract:
A multipart torque bar is provided. Multipart torque bar may comprise an outer torque bar body, an inner torque bar body, a mounting hole, and a connecting end. Outer torque bar body may be configured to comprise a groove, wherein the inner torque bar body may removably insert within the groove. Multipart torque bars of the present disclosure can exhibit improved characteristics, such as improved vibration damping.
Abstract:
A wheel monitoring system comprising a wheel, a bearing mechanically coupled to the wheel, an axle mechanically coupled to the bearing, and a wheel speed transducer (WST) disposed in the axle. The WST may be configured to detect vibrations. A method of monitoring a bearing is also provided and may comprise measuring a vibration of the bearing, comparing the vibration of the bearing to a predetermined vibration, and estimating a remaining useful life of the bearing.
