    Abstract: An airplane is provided. The airplane includes a compressing device including a turbine and a compressor. The turbine includes first and second inlets and provides energy by expanding one or more mediums. The first inlet is receives a first medium of the one or more mediums. The second inlet receives a second medium of the one or more mediums. The compressor receives a first energy derived from the first and second mediums being expanded across the turbine during a first mode of the compressing device, receives a second energy derived from the first medium being expanded across the turbine during a second mode of the compressing device, and compresses the second medium in accordance with the first mode or the second mode.

    Abstract: An air cycle machine is provided. The machine includes a housing configured to enable airflow therethrough, a fan disposed within the housing and configured to rotate within the housing, and at least one aperture formed in the housing and configured to allow airflow through the at least one aperture from a cooling airflow path of an air cycle machine and into the housing. The at least one aperture is configured to optimally direct airflow passing therethrough toward the fan.

    Abstract: A cabin air compressor assembly that include a cabin air compressor disposed at a compressor inlet and a cabin air compressor motor operably connected to the cabin air compressor. At least one cooling flow inlet is configured to direct a cooling flow through various pathways in the cabin air compressor assembly, including across the cabin air compressor motor. A blower is configured to boost the cooling flow across the cabin air compressor motor, thereby increasing cooling flow provided to the air compressor motor. A static seal plate is downstream of the blower and guides the boosted cooling flow toward a cooling flow exit. In addition, the static seal plate isolates boosted cooling flow from a moving rotor of the cabin air compressor, and also forms part of a containment structure that contains fragments and breakage that may come from the cabin air compressor rotor.
