Abstract:
A mixture of a sulphochlorinated polyolefin with a sulphochlorination product of a C10 to C30 aliphatic or unsaturated hydrocarbon and/or a C10 to C25 araliphatic hydrocarbon and/or a C3 to C10 aliphatic substituted cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon, may be obtained by mixing the components (e.g. by milling) or by sulphochlorination of a polyolefin/hydrocarbon mixture (e.g. the mixture obtained in the manufacture of the polyolefin). The polyolefin and/or the hydrocarbon may be pre-chlorinated. Specified polymers are those of ethylene, propylene, butene, pentene and mixtures thereof, and the preferred hydrocarbons are petroleum fractions (180 DEG -250 DEG C.), diisopropyl toluene and dodecyl benzene. In examples sulphochlorination is carried out in carbon tetrachloride and may be catalyzed by U.V. light. The products may be formed into sheet and vulcanized and compounded with ingredients selected from litharge, pigments, stearic acid, abietic acid, mercaptobenzthiazole and dipentamethylene thiuram tetrasulphide. Specification 815,088 is referred to.
Abstract:
Plasticized polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride compositions are prepared by mixing an aqueous emulsion or dispersion, a dispersion in an organic solvent, or finely-powdered polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and an olefinic monomer, with an organic solvent solution of chlorinated or sulphochlorinated polyethylene, polypropylene, or copolymer of ethylene and propylene, and removing the solvent and water from the mixture. A solution of the polyolefine may be added to an aqueous emulsion of the polyvinyl chloride or vice versa, or alternatively finelypowdered polyvinyl chloride may be added to the polyolefine solution. Polyethylene prepared by the high or low-pressure processes may be used with solvents such as methylene chloride, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, tetrachlorethane, benzene or toluene or mixtures thereof, with or without anion or cation emulsifiers. The mixtures may be freed of solvent by coagulating with, for example, calcium on lead chloride, by atomizing with steam or inert gas under reduced pressure, or by stirring with hot water. Other plasticizers and dyestuffs may be included in the composition.
