摘要: A high-strength magnesium-based alloy possessing a microcrystalline composition represented by the general formula: Mg.sub.a Al.sub.b M.sub.c or Mg.sub.a,Al.sub.b M.sub.c X.sub.d (wherein M stands for at least one element selected from the group consisting of Ga, Sr, and Ba, X stands for at least one element selected from the group consisting of Zn, Ce, Zr, and Ca, and a, a', b, c, and d stand for atomic percents respectively in the ranges of 78.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.94, 75.ltoreq.a'.ltoreq.94, 2.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.12, 1.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.10, and 0.1.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.3). This alloy can be advantageously produced by rapidly solidifying the melt of an alloy of the composition shown above by the liquid quenching method. It is useful as high-strength materials and highly refractory materials owing to its high hardness, strength, and heat-resistance. It is also useful as materials with high specific strength because of light weight and high strength.

摘要: The present invention provides an additive powder for coating materials or plastics, comprising a particle of a metal or glass, comprised of a particle having a thickness of 0.5 to 5 .mu.m, a minor axis/major axis of from 5 to 500 .mu.m, an aspect ratio (ratio of the major axis to the thickness) of not less than 5, and a ratio of the minor axis to the major axis, of from 1 to 10, and having the shape of a leaf as a whole. This powder can be prepared by melting a metal or glass, bringing the resulting melt to flow out from a nozzle and jetting a gas to the melt to form droplets of the melt, and bringing said droplets, before they solidify, to collied against the surface of a rotating cooling member having the shape of an cone or horn and provided in the directio of the flow of said droplets, followed by cooling to effect solidification. This powder can readily cause the leafing phenomenon when added in coating materials and coated, and hence the coating surface can be effectively covered with the powder, so that it can impart superior corrosion resistance and weathering resistance as compared with conventional powders. It can also impart superior electromagnetic shielding properties when added in plastics or rubbers.

摘要: The specification discloses an alloy catalyst for oxidation of hydrogen which is prepared by heat treating a material comprising an amorphous alloy represented by the formula: Zr.sub.x Co.sub.(100-x) (wherein 10 atomic %.ltoreq..times..ltoreq.80 atomic %), according to the following three-steps in an oxidizing atomsphere: first heat-treatment step at a temperature at which the foregoing alloy stably exists as an amorphous single phase; second heat-treatment step at a temperature at which the alloy exists as a mixed phase of a metastable phase and an amorphous phase; and third-heat treatment step at a temperature at which the alloy is entirely transformed into a crystalline phase. The alloy catalyst of the present invention is a highly active catalyst for oxidation of hydrogen and exhibits a superior catalytic efficiency especially in catalytic combustion of hydrogen and in deoxidation and dehydrogenation of a gas mixture of hydrogen and oxygen.

摘要: The present invention provides high corrosion-resistant aluminum-based alloys having a composition represented by the general formula Al.sub.x M.sub.y (wherein: M is one metal element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Nd and Sm; and x and y range from 75 to 98 atomic percent and from 2 to 25 atomic percent, respectively), the aluminum-based alloy containing at least 50% by volume of amorphous phase. The aluminum-based alloys are especially useful as high corrosion-resistant, high strength, high heat-resistant materials in various applications and, since they exhibit superplasticity in the vicinity of their crystallization temperature, they can be processed into various bulk materials, for example, by extrusion, press working or hot-forging at the temperatures within the range of the crystallization temperature .+-.100.degree. C.

摘要: A level gauge for liquid helium comprising a sensing element in the form of a ribbon wire made of superconductive alloys and a tube supporting the sensing element, which tube is inserted into liquid helium upon measurement. The superconductive alloys are represented by a formula Zr.sub.100-x.(Ru.sub.y.Rh.sub.1-y).sub.x in which x represents contents of Ru and/or Rh in atomic % and in a numerical value of 22.5.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.27.5 and y represents a numerical value of 0.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1. The alloys are made of an amorphous phase obtained by rapid quenching a molten alloy material and have a superconducting transition temperature, Tc, of 4.2.degree. to 4.5.degree. K. When the level gauge is immersed in liquid helium, a portion of the sensing element below the level of the liquid helium has a zero electric resistance because of the superconductivity of the alloy, so that the level of the liquid helium can be detected by a variation in resistance of the sensing element.

摘要: Amorphous metal filaments having a substantially circular cross-section comprising an alloy containing Fe as a main component, and a process for producing such amorphous metal filaments, are described; the process comprises jetting a molten alloy having amorphism forming ability into a revolving body containing a cooling liquid from a spinning nozzle to form a solidified filament by cooling, and continuously winding the filament on the inner wall of said revolving body by means of the centrifugal force of said revolving body, wherein the circumferential rate of revolution of said revolving body is equal to or higher than the rate of jetting of molten metal from the spinning nozzle. These metal filaments have good corrosion resistance, toughness, and high magnetic permeability and are very useful in various industrial applications, such as electric and electronic parts, materials for reinforcement, and fiber materials.

摘要: An amorphous iron-based alloy which comprises not more than 25 atom % of Si and 2.5 to 25 atom % of B (providing that the sum of Si and B falls in the range of 15 to 35 atom %), 1.5 to 20 atom % of Cr, 0.2 to 10 atom % of either or both of P and C, and the balance to make up 100 atom % substantially of Fe excels in fatigue property. An amorphous iron-based alloy which contains not more than 30 atom % of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Co, Ni, Ta, Nb, Mo, W, V, Mn, Ti, Al, Cu and Zr in addition to the components making up the aforementioned alloy excels in amorphous texture of forming ability and fatigue property. Since these alloys are also excellent in tensile strength at fracture, thermal resistance, corrosionproofness, and electromagnetic property, they prove highly useful as electromagnetic materials and as reinforcements in various industrial materials.
