    Abstract: Systems and method are specified to improve the reception of UL transmission, for example in power or coverage limited situations. A WTRU may modify procedures to increase the available signal energy for reception at an eNB and/or to make more efficient use of the available signal energy at the receiver for processing UL transmissions. Example methods for increasing UL link coverage may include modifying HARQ timing (e.g., shorter HARQ), using longer TTIs, use of dedicated PUSCH allocations, use of new PUSCH modulations, enhanced reference signal design, UL macro diversity reception for PUSCH, utilizing protocol reduction techniques, ensuring in-order packet delivery, and/or utilizing a configuration for coverage limited/power limited modes of operation. The proposed methods may be applied individually or in any combination.

    Abstract: Techniques for efficient downlink control with a large number of carriers and/or TTIs are described. Techniques for blind decoding reduction may include making the search space and/or aggregation level of candidates for a first PDCCH/E-PDCCH associated with the characteristics of a second received PDCCH/E-PDCCH. Techniques may include embedding DCI for a set of serving cells and/or TTIs in a PDSCH. DCI for a set of serving cells and/or TTIs may be included in single PDCCH/E-PDCCH. To reduce overhead, carrier indicator field interpretation may be associated with the serving cell or TTI from which the PDCCH/E-PDCCH containing the downlink control information is received, or the group of cells or TTIs to which the PDCCH/E-PDCCH containing the downlink control information belongs.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for uplink feedback for operating with a large number of carriers are disclosed herein. A method in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) includes receiving a plurality of transport blocks over a set of a plurality of configured carriers, generating hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ)-acknowledgment (ACK) feedback for the transport blocks and determining a number of HARQ-ACK feedback bits to use for the HARQ-ACK feedback. Further, the WTRU may apply, to the HARQ-ACK feedback bits, Reed-Muller coding on a condition that the number of HARQ-ACK feedback bits is less than or equal to a threshold or convolutional coding on a condition that the number of HARQ-ACK feedback bits is greater than a threshold. The WTRU may then transmit the encoded HARQ-ACK feedback bits. In addition, the WTRU may conditionally append cyclic redundancy check (CRC) bits onto the HARQ-ACK feedback bits, and encode and transmit the CRC bits.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for supporting reference signals are disclosed. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) is configured to receive a reference signal of a first type. The first type is other than a cell specific reference signal (CRS), an Multicast Broadcast Single Frequency Network (MBSFN) reference signal or a demodulation reference signal (DM-RS). Reference signals of the first type are received in resource elements other than resource elements used for a physical broadcast channel (PBCH), a primary synchronization signal or a secondary synchronization signal. The WTRU is configured to receive a radio resource control message indicating a subframe position in which the reference signal of the first type is transmitted and a periodicity of a transmission of the reference signal of the first type, and a number of antenna ports for a transmission of the reference signal of the first type.

    Abstract: Physical layer processing and procedures for device-to-device (D2D) discovery signal generation and transmission and scheduling of D2D discovery signals are described. Detection and measurement of a D2D discovery signal, D2D signal identity management, and monitoring by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) of PDCCH for D2D discovery scheduling is described, as is a WTRU that may be configured with a D2D-specific transmission/reception opportunity pattern. The discovery signal may carry a payload for explicit information about user and/or service identity, and may be mapped to physical resources in such a way as to decouple transmission/reception of the discovery signal from downlink operations. A WTRU may measure a D2D discovery signal quality and report to the network.
