Abstract:
A system for facilitating the creation of design specifications includes a computer and a database having stored thereon data indicative of a plurality of storage locations in a processed specification into which data may be entered. Software executing on the computer: displays a requirements document; receives an indication of a selected portion of the requirements document; based at least in part upon the indication of the selected portion of the requirements document, retrieves from the database a list of possible storage locations corresponding to the selected portion of the requirements document; displays the list of possible storage locations corresponding to the selected portion of the requirements document; receives an indication of a selected storage location; receives an indication of data selected in the requirements document to be stored in the selected storage location; and stores the selected data in the selected storage location in the processed specification.
Abstract:
The invention provides an isolated major ampullate spidroin protein, which consists of from 150 to 420 amino acid residues and is defined by the formula KEP-CT. KEP is a repetitive, N-terminally derived protein fragment having from 80 to 300 amino acid residues. CT is a C-terminally derived protein fragment having from 70 to 120 amino acid residues. The invention further provides an isolated fusion protein consisting of a first protein fragment, which is a major ampullate spidroin protein, and a second protein fragment comprising a fusion partner and a cleavage agent recognition site. The first protein fragment is coupled via said cleavage agent recognition site to the fusion partner. The invention also provides a method of producing a major ampullate spidroin protein and polymers thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention provides novel lipid mixtures for synthetic surfactants. In particular, the invention provides a specific lipid mixture containing a specific amount of polyunsaturated phospholipids to be used for the preparation of synthetic surfactants. Said surfactants and pharmaceutical compositions thereof are useful for the treatment of surfactant deficiencies like respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).
Abstract:
A device for quick closing of an electric high-voltage circuit. A main spark gap is provided with a first and a second main electrode, and a triggering device. The triggering device includes an auxiliary electrode gap provided with a first and a second auxiliary electrode and is adapted, where necessary, to generate an arc in the auxiliary spark gap for igniting an arc in the main spark gap. Each auxiliary electrode is provided with a guide rail designed such that the arc, via the guide rails and under the influence of the generated inherent magnetic field, moves into the main spark gap. The two guide rails each have a length that is larger than the width of the auxiliary spark gap. The auxiliary electrodes are adapted so as to be protected from the effect of plasma formed in the main spark gap. A hermetic enclosure encloses the main spark gap and the auxiliary spark gap.
Abstract:
An electric switch (1) comprising a capacity sensor circuit (2) provided with a signal input (3) arranged to be connected to an actuating line, and which is provided with a relay device (4) arranged to feed a current to a load line (7) from a power source (6) in response to a capacitive influence along said actuating line. According to the invention the signal input (3) of the sensor circuit (2) is arranged to be connected to the load line (7) in such a manner that the load line will constitute said actuating line.
Abstract:
SP-C analogue artificial peptides having surface activity are disclosed and their use for preparing artificial surfactants useful in the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and other diseases related to surfactant deficiency or dysfunction.
Abstract:
An indexible cutting insert has a connecting surface formed by alternating parallel ridges and grooves. Each ridge is defined by a pair of flanks which converge in an outward direction. Each ridge includes a convexly curved surface portion for making line contact with a corresponding ridge of a support surface. The convexly curved surface is spaced from outer and inner ends of the respective flank.
Abstract:
The invention is based on the discovery that the presence of a discordant helix in a protein or peptide is predictive of that protein or peptide's ability to form amyloid. The invention includes methods for detecting discordant helices and methods of screening for compounds that stabilize the &agr;-helix of a discordant helix-containing polypeptide. Compounds discovered using these methods are useful for treating or preventing disorders in which amyloid is produced. Such disorders include Alzheimer's disease and prion-associated disorders.
Abstract:
A method is provided for cutting pipes, preferably welded pipes in conjunction with welding the pipes in a welding machine, and for cutting the pipes at a rate determined by the welding machine. At the same time a pipe is cut in a cutting position by a raisable and lowerable cutting device, the next pipe to be cut is fed to a pipe collecting position. The collecting position is displaced in relation to the cutting position, such that when the cutting device returns to its starting position upon completion of a cutting operation, the pipe is advanced one step to the pipe cutting position while simultaneously, the preceding pipe is advanced to the pipe collecting position.
