    摘要: A display device includes a display unit in which pixels are arranged in a matrix. The pixels each include a first sub-pixel having the largest area among sub-pixels, a second sub-pixel adjacent to the first sub-pixel and having an area smaller than that of the first sub-pixel, and a third sub-pixel adjacent to the first and second sub-pixels, having an area smaller than that of the first sub-pixel, and arranged in the same column as that of second sub-pixels. First, second, and third pixels are aligned in at least one of a column direction or a row direction and each include the first, second, and third sub-pixels that can display different one of first, second, and third colors. Areas of the first, second, and third colors displayable by the first, second, and third pixels in total are equal to one another.

    摘要: According to one embodiment, a display device comprises first and second substrates and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode. The second substrate is opposed to the first substrate. The liquid crystal layer is between the first substrate and the second substrate. A frame frequency for rewriting a voltage of the pixel electrode is 80 Hz or more. A liquid crystal material contained in the liquid crystal layer has negative dielectric anisotropy. Product Δnd of a gap d between the first substrate and the second substrate and refractive anisotropy Δn of the liquid crystal material is less than 0.33 μm. The gap d is more than 2 μm and less than 3 μm.

    摘要: A liquid crystal display device prevents an alignment film between an inorganic insulating film and a sealant from peeling off the inorganic insulating film in a seal portion. The device has a TFT substrate and a counter substrate bonded together by the sealant in the seal portion with liquid crystal sandwiched therebetween. The TFT substrate has pixels in a matrix pattern along with the alignment film, and the TFT substrate and the counter substrate are rectangular in external shape. The TFT substrate has a display area and a terminal area. The display area is formed surrounded by the sealant. The counter substrate is absent over the terminal area. The alignment film is disposed under the sealant on the TFT substrate. An oxide conductive film, disposed under the alignment film, is formed up to the edge of the TFT substrate and is in an electrically floating state.

    摘要: In order to increase the transmittance around a pixel and to increase the brightness of the screen in an IPS mode liquid crystal display device, a pixel electrode with a slit is formed on a common electrode through an interlayer insulating film. An opening is formed in the common electrode on the outside of the end portion of the pixel electrode as seen in a plane view. Because of the presence of the opening, the electric field lines from the end portion of the pixel electrode reach the layer above the liquid crystal layer and reach further away from the end portion of the pixel electrode, so that it is possible to increase the control ability to the liquid crystal around the pixel. As a result, the pixel transmittance can be increased as a whole and the brightness of the screen can be increased.
