    摘要: The invention relates to hydrogen peroxide manufacture, and catalyst therefor, by direct oxidation of hydrogen with oxygen in an acidic aqueous medium. The catalyst includes a Group VIII metal on a partially hydrophobic, partially hydrophillic support, such as Pd on fluorinated carbon. Improvements in H.sub.2 O.sub.2 selectivity and catalyst stability are achieved by adding a source of sodium and chloride ions to the reaction medium and, in the case of a fluorinated carbon support, adding a source of fluoride ions.

    摘要: Oxidation of liquid ethanol in the presence of excess liquid ethanol and a supported oxidation catalyst provides a one step process for production of ethyl acetate. The acetic acid produced in the oxidation is absorbed by the excess liquid ethanol, which esterifies to ethyl acetate. Ethyl acetate and water are removed from the process for separation of the ethyl acetate. The oxidation portion of process is preferred with a metallic oxidation catalyst on a hydrophobic support. The esterification portion of the process is preferred with an acidic solid ion exchange resin to promote the esterification. The process can be performed in series in separate steps, or preferably, in parallel in a single vessel, preferably a trickle bed reactor.

The total perforated, cross-sectional area, and the cross-sectional area of each perforation, for each plate is chosen to match the permeability of the packed beds so that the plates and packed beds contribute significantly to the gas/liquid contact thus greatly increasing the mass transfer efficiency of the packed column.

    摘要: A continuous epoxidation process for the production of high purity propylene oxide by the reaction of propylene with an oxidant that is a per-acid, such as peracetic acid (PAA), in a reactive distillation (RD) column. The RD column provides excellent heat integration and temperature control, and the process has the advantage of lower investment cost for capital equipment. The process operates at mild temperatures and pressures. A ferric acetylacetonate homogeneous catalyst and/or stabilizer may be included as part of the PAA feed to the process to increase PAA conversion and selectivity to propylene oxide. A pre-reactor can be incorporated upsteam of the RD column to increase the residence time at lower temperatures to enhance productivity.

    摘要: A gas/liquid contacting tray assembly is provided, including a perforated sheet and elongated cover strips arching over the perforations in the sheet. The cover strips have slots with liquid conveying strips in them for conveying liquid along the slots while mixing gas therewith. This reduces stagnant areas downstream of the cover strips, and sedimentation of solids in these areas, thus increasing the gas/liquid mixing and handling capacity while reducing the frequency of shut downs. A further slot, extending in the opposite direction to the one above, may be provided in the cover strip and have a conveying strip for conveying liquid mixed with gas to the other end of the cover strip and further reducing the formation of stagnant areas. The cover strips may taper inwardly width-wise in a downstream direction.

C. is contacted with a catalyst assembly comprising (a) a hydrophobic support having a surface area in the range 50 to 1,500 m.sup.2 /g and selected from the group consisting of silicalite, silylated silica, and styrene divinylbenzene polymers, and, on said support (b) a catalytically active metal selected from the group consisting of chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, rhenium, iron, ruthenium, osmium, cobalt, rhodium, platinum, iridium, nickel, copper and silver, said metal being present in an amount in the range 0.1 to 22 wt % of the total weight of the catalyst assembly. The catalyst assemblies used are generally catalytically active in the presence of liquid water and water vapor for longer periods than known catalyst assemblies and function at ambient temperatures.
