Abstract:
A process for a mono carbonylation of a benzenediol of the formula (I) is characterized in that a benzene diol of the formula (II) is reacted with an acid anhydride or carbonyl halide of the formula (III) without any organic or inorganic bases for thereby producing a monocarbonylated benzenediol of the formula (I): wherein R is hydrogen, C1-C15 alkyl group, cycle alkyl group, aryl group, alkoxy group, aryloxy group, dialkylamino group, alkylarylamino group or diarylamino group, and X is a general leaving group such as fluoride, chloride, bromide, iodide, acetoxy, etc.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a vehicle weight measuring structure. The structure comprises a base plate; a plurality of support elements placed on the base plate, each support element having a pair of legs which project downward and are separated from each other by a predetermined distance to be brought into contact with the base plate, each leg having a free end serving as a contact part which possesses a rounded contour; and a structure body horizontally supported by the plurality of support elements in a manner such that an upper surface of the structure body and an upper surface of a road become coplanar, for transferring a load of a vehicle traveling on the road to the support elements.
Abstract:
A process to produce a liquid crystalline polymer film comprises electrostatically depositing a fine powder of liquid crystalline polymer resin onto a carrier and fusing the deposited fine powder to form a liquid crystalline polymer film that is isotropic in the x-y plane. The electrostatic deposition of the resin particles results in a substantially random molecular alignment of the liquid crystalline polymer. The carrier can comprise an all metal foil, a metal foil laminate, a polymer film material, or a release material.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a polyurethane prepolymer containing carboxylic group(s), or both carboxylic group(s) and double bond(s), which comprises the steps of 1) preparing a diol or triol monomer having carboxylic group(s), or having both carboxylic group(s) and double bond(s) by performing an addition reaction of at least one acid anhydride(s) which may contain double bond(s), with at least one triol or tetraol derivative(s) containing three or four hydroxyl groups in a molar ratio from 0.5:1 to 2:1; and then 2) reacting the obtained diol or triol monomer, or their mixture with a polyol and a diisocyanate or a diisocyanate polymer to give polyurethane prepolymer having an NCO content of 0.1 to 30%, is disclosed. In addition, a process for preparing a water-stable aqueous polyurethane dispersion by neutralizing, dispersing, and chain extending the polyurethane prepolymer obtained above is provided. As the polyurethane dispersion according has excellent luster, elasticity, and water-repellency, it is very useful as a coating agent, an adhesive, or a paper sizing agent.
Abstract:
The reaction of methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and a .alpha.,.omega.-alkanediol, in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, such as a metal alkoxide and/or metal acetate, can be used to synthesize an .alpha.,.omega.-bis(p-hydroxybenzoyloxy)alkane monomer.
Abstract:
Blends can be formed which comprise a flexible coil polymer substrate, e.g., of a poly(alkylene terephthalate), and a thermotropic, essentially liquid crystalline oligomer which comprises aromatic units and at least one linear polyalkylene spacer. These blends can be used to form fibers or molded articles.
Abstract:
The liquid crystalline compounds of the structure ##STR1## where Ar represents phenylene (e.g., bonded in their para positions) and B represents a cyclohydrocarbylene bridging group such as cyclohexylene or phenylene, are disclosed.
Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a fine spheroidized steel sheet having an excellent heat treatment characteristic, the method including: i) manufacturing a high carbon slab that is formed of 0.3 to 1.0 wt % C, 0.1 to 1.2 wt % Mn, 0 to 0.4 wt % Si, 0.01 to 0.1 wt % Al, 0 to 0.01 wt % S, and balance Fe and an inevitably added impurity as residuals; ii) reheating the slab to a temperature of Ar3 transformation point or more; iii) roughing rolling the slab, and manufacturing a thin plate by performing finish rolling in an austenite region; iv) cooling the thin plate at a cooling speed of 50 to 300° C./sec; v) finishing the cooling of the thin plate at a temperature region of 400 to 650° C. and maintaining the temperature; vi) winding the thin plate at a temperature region of 450 to 700° C.; vii) performing cold rolling at a reduction ratio of 30% or more; and viii) spheroidizing annealing the cold rolled thin plate.
Abstract:
Articles are disclosed, comprising a polymer foam layer having a first surface and an opposite second surface; a plurality of cells between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer, wherein the thickness of the polymer foam layer between the first surface and the opposite second surface is 1.0 to 1.5 times the average height of the plurality of cells; and a plurality of magnetic, electrically conductive particles aligned into a plurality of mutually isolated chains that essentially continuously span the foam between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer. The foams are useful as gaskets for electromagnetic shielding, grounding pads, battery contact conductive spring elements, and the like.
