摘要: A method of controlling consumption of animal feed is disclosed which is capable of limiting consumption to a desired level per animal without the use of special equipment or additional labor for this purpose. The feed composition includes a basal supplement containing an effective amount of sodium hydroxide to control consumption of the feed composition to the desired level.

摘要: A feed dispenser which is eminently suitable for wild bird feeding may be collapsed to a compact condition for shipment and storage and readily erected for feed dispensing. The feed dispenser or feeder is comprised of a bottom tray with foldably connected end walls, a cover which is releasably supported by the end walls in the erected condition and a replaceable feed container which may be positioned on the feed dispenser tray and then caused to dispense the feed.

摘要: A composition for limiting feed supplement intake for animals is disclosed which comprises an acidulated fat, wherein acidulation of the fat is carried out at a temperature of at least about 220.degree. F. with an acid, preferably a mineral acid. The acidulated fat can be incorporated into the feed supplement at a level exceeding 1.5% by weight to control intake or combined with other intake limiters such as meat meal, diammonium phosphate, and ammonium sulfate for intake control. This composition controls feed supplement intake by the animal when added thereto, permitting self-rationed feeding without waste.

摘要: A feed block is formed of compacted feed components and includes a moisture level of between about 7 and about 15 percent. Feed blocks have an initial weight, which is substantially free of liquid, and liquid is introduced to the feed block to cause the feed block to absorb liquid. A final resulting weight of the feed block is at least 100 percent greater than the initial weight. The feed block with the absorbed liquid is provided the to the livestock animals for the simultaneous ingestion of feed and liquid. Feed blocks are formed by introducing feed components in a high pressure press and compacting the feed components to form the feed block.

摘要: The present invention includes a method for improving milk production in a ruminant. An amount of ruminally digestible starch in relation to the dry matter of a feed is manipulated to include a first selected ratio of ruminally digestible starch in relation to the dry matter of the feed which is fed to the ruminant during a first time interval after parturition. After the first time interval, the amount of ruminally digestible starch component in the dry matter of the feed is adjusted to a second ratio, lower than the first ratio, and fed to the ruminant.

摘要: Nutritionally balanced, firm, flexible gels are prepared in shapes attractive to animals, e.g. in the shape of fish for fish-eating animals, the gels comprising: A. At least one gelling agent, e.g. a gelatin and/or a gum; B. At least one animal protein; and C. Water. The gel optionally comprises other nutritionally valuable ingredients such as various oils and fats, plant protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and the like. In one embodiment, the gel is prepared by first blending the appropriate ingredients into a homogenous mass, casting the mass into a block, and then cutting the block into the desired shapes using a patterned cutter.

摘要: Sport and game fish are attracted to an area of a lake, stream or other body of water by a fish attractant block comprising a cured formulation of compositional components suspended in the aquatic medium by a rope or similar suspension means. The fish attractant block is prepared by first formulating a relatively homogeneous mixture of the block compositional components, transferring this liquid composition from a mixer to a package equipped with a rope, and then allowing the liquid formulation to cure. Representative ingredients of the formulation include molasses, fish oil, fish meal, attapulgite clay, a phosphate source and magnesium oxide (a curing assist). The blocks of this invention are not only effective at attracting game and sport fish, but they are also water stable and environmentally benign.

摘要: A method is disclosed providing a more efficient and economical method of feeding ruminants a lower crude protein diet while still achieving the same level of milk and milk component yield as ruminants fed a normal crude protein diet. Specifically, the method involves feeding ruminants an animal feed supplement comprising at least one rumen protected protein in combination with a lower crude protein diet. This method provides a unique approach to feed formulation in that it allows for up to a 50% reduction in crude protein intake while maintaining the intestinal protein supply and milk component yield. This in turn results in a reduction of animal urinary nitrogen losses as well as a reduction in feed costs.
