Abstract: A pump for delivering a fluid includes a pump housing that defines at least one reservoir having a circumferentially open first end, a circumferentially closed second end and a chamber to receive the fluid. The pump includes a plunger assembly having at least one plunger arm and a cannula fluidly coupled to the plunger arm to dispense the fluid from the pump. The plunger arm is receivable within the first end of the reservoir, and the at least one plunger arm defining an internal conduit to receive the fluid from the at least one fluid reservoir. The internal conduit is fluidly coupled to the cannula. The plunger assembly is movable in a first direction relative to the pump housing to advance the plunger arm within the fluid reservoir to dispense the fluid from the fluid reservoir out of the pump via the cannula.

Abstract: Disclosed is a medical device component for delivering medication fluid to a patient. The medical device component includes a fluid infusion device to regulate delivery of medication fluid, a body-mountable base unit, and a top cover assembly that is removably couplable to the base unit and to the fluid infusion device. The base unit includes a cannula to deliver medication fluid under the control of the fluid infusion device, and a physiological analyte sensor to measure a physiological characteristic. The base unit also includes an electronics assembly electrically connected to sensor leads to obtain measurements in the analog domain, to convert measurements into digital sensor data, and to communicate conditioned digital sensor data to the fluid infusion device. The top cover assembly is configured to provide both fluid and electrical connections for the base unit, by way of an infusion tube having sensor conductors integrated therein or otherwise associated therewith.

Abstract: A sensor system includes a sensor and a sensor electronics device. The sensor includes a plurality of electrodes. The sensor electronics device includes a connection detection device, a power source, and a delay circuit. The connection detection device determines if the sensor electronics device is connected to the sensor and transmits a connection signal. The delay circuit receives the connection signal, waits a preset hydration time, and couples the regulated voltage from the power source to an electrode in the sensor after the preset hydration time has elapsed. Alternatively, the sensor electronics device may include an electrical detection circuit and a microcontroller. The electrical detection circuit determines if the plurality of electrodes are hydrated and generates an interrupt if the electrodes are hydrated. A microcontroller receives the interrupt and transmits a signal representative of a voltage to an electrode of the plurality of electrodes.
